Wondering if anyone has any insights into this:

2 weeks ago, my site Minisite & Sales Page Creation for Beginners | 7 Minute Minisites was working up to the front page of Google for the keyword "minisites".

Then, all of a sudden, gone. Not in the top 1000.

I'm a few months into some of the popular backlink packages from Warriors... and I've already been through 1 "google dance".

But it's coming up on 2 weeks gone, not sure if this is something else...?

Thought I was going about things the right way- would be grateful for any tips here.

Discouraged,
Dave

Don't feel discouraged. The SERPS change constantly (especially for certain keywords). Since your website is new (only five months old), it may disappear for a while and then reappear higher in the SERPS than it was previously. As a general rule, websites that are "new" are less trusted in Google's eyes.

Make sure you are varying your anchor text (slightly) when building backlinks. This way your backlink profile looks more natural.

You site may have dipped in rank for a particular keyword but may rank for other keywords (especially long tail and low competition ones)

Hey Dave, I copied the following line of text from your site...

Selling books, audios, and other products on the web can be big business. But for a lot of us, there's always the problem of crossing the great "technical divide".

Then I put that line into Google's search box. Your site was returned at about position 6-7 on the front page so your site is still some Google index. But when I do the same search using parentheses it doesn't show at all. So, either you did something to gain disfavor with Google (did you change your content significantly prior to the disappearance?) or it's just a natural thing that will settle out in time.

You could have gotten into Google's supplemental index rather than the main index for some reason. Google used to show if your site was in the SI but no longer does. It's hard to tell now. But your site was cached on Aug. 28 by Google so she still knows your there.

The main reasons for getting into the SI include long spammy-looking URLs (you don't have), duplicate content issues, and link-building issues.

I know you want traffic, but often people go making tons of changes in your situation and then ruin the things that got them a high listing position in the first place. It's hard, but I'd hang tight for another week and see if you rebound. Good luck. --Mike

Great advice everyone. Thanks. I'm going to sit tight, and see what happens.

The toughest thing is understanding the lesson from this... build links slower? Watch for duplicate content(??) Sales letter type sites are harder to rank highly?

I'll let you know my sandbox exploits.
