Hello Everyone

Let's say you were during this situation:

You are a little residential service contractor. (Plumbing, HVAC, Electric, etc.)
You have one truck, 2 staff (yourself and a helper).
Your business is pretty new, not renowned.
You have a pleasant web site in conjunction with a fairly good (well written) original web log.
You've created several citations and signed up for all the native directories.
You come back up 1st within the Google native search in your city, however there square measure solely ten,000 folks in your city therefore your place needs to cowl fifty different little cities.

You just don't get several guests to the web site, possibly as a result of it's no backlinks. nobody is linking to your web log posts as a result of articles concerning roofing or plumbing simply are not attention-grabbing nor do they get shared.

If you were during this scenario, however would you get links to your website? What, exactly, would you do?

Blogging is a surefire way to get quality links. According to HubSpot, businesses with a consistent blogging habit get up to 97% more inbound links.

Assuming it's your business and it's for local customers only then I would:

    1. Get your business on Google Local
    2. Research your keywords, and find your competitors.
    3. See what they are doing to get leads.
    4. Use long tail keywords and write good content for these long tail keywords. You could educate your local customers on how to protect pipes during the winter months and so on.

In simple terms - sit down and figure out who your customers are, where do you find these customers and once you have this information then you need serve them with your company details..

    I hope this helps.

I would also do this. But in regards to the content, I would try to be inventive about how to go about doing it. Maybe it is easier to promote rich content than just written.

Maybe you can find a local blogger or newspaper who could help you generate backlinks.

Try to create content with clickable topics, maybe 'Top 10s' or educational material about things that could go wrong while doing home improvement yourself?

It is very simple. You need some paid/free tools. First choose your keyword. Then Find competitor related to that keyword. Use ahref(paid tool) to generate their backlinks and start working on them.
    Best Luck

  • This senario is very common.

    I would

    1. Do a back link analysis on competitors and come up with a back link strategy.

    2. You already mentioned you are listed in local directories. I'd ensure you are in all the relevant ones for your area to include the map listings for Google/Bing

    3. I would develop my content strategy to include paid marketing of that content to get it out more to the public in your area. Don't underestimate the power of paying for facebook traffic to your content to drive leads, brand awareness, be seen as the authority in your industry.

    4. Combine the paid content strategy to work in paid search ads to drive leads

    5. Manipulate the Google map Listings with something like Crowdsearch. Be careful how you use the tool however and don't use it for your own website.

    6. Jam out some quick how to videos and silo them into a playlist in youtube.

    7. Network with other businesses for offline marketing and see about cross promotions that could be ran.

  • Here is what i would do:
1st) Make sure you have your Google My Business Listing set up and optimized correctly.

2nd) Get as many local citations as possible on authority sites (here is a great list of local citations I put together)

3rd) Reach out to other local businesses and organizations in your area to see if they will put your link on their website. This could come from a variety of sources: possibly a community "A-List" or "Best of" contest, organizations you support, chamber of commerce directory, and the list goes on.

    Hope this helps!

    LocalWebStrategies above has it right.

You could also create more pages and give yourself links (they do count).

Get someone to write an article about how to spot 3 big plumbing problems when looking for a house. Contact local real estate agents with a website and offer them the article for free as long as they give you a link.

Then contact realtors in other cities, and give it to them too.

    Hi there

A great way to get backlinks is to build up local citations. Citations are defined as mentions of your business name and address on other webpages. They are a key component of the ranking algorithms in Google and Bing. Other factors being equal, businesses with a greater number of citations will probably rank higher than businesses with fewer citations.

The most difficult part of building citations is making your business visible on the local search results. It takes only a few hours to get it right but doing it wrong will take you many hours and possibly a lot more in terms of money spent

But the worst of it all is that completely ignoring citations or building them ineffectively will translate to fewer clients for your business. As long as you have wrong citations, do not expect to appear in Google+ Local or anywhere in local search. It is not only a wasted time but also wasted opportunity. High quality and well-maintained citations are the foundations for a robust SEO campaign. Below is a geek's guide to building the most perfect and powerful local citations to give you the best results from your citations.

What do you mean what would I do?

First, I'd be an expert in that business and do marketing research. Then come up with a business plan.

Backlinks? Man that would be last on the list. I get on local, maps, yelp, yp, et. al. Then advertise like a big %$@@%^(* dog.

If backlinks make or break your business, then you don't have a real business.

    Are you people for real?

I don't get the question. How do you get links in relation to what?

There are tons of ways you can get links. If you are busy, you can hire someone from freelancer or upwork to do the link building for you. If you don't want to spend, you can do it yourself.

You can start with the local listings like yellow pages, company listings, and then move to bookmarking, article posting in article directories, website directories, and then blog commenting. You can create your official social media pages like facebook, twitter, or instagram to promote your website.

I really want to learn more about acquiring backlinks because I think for me that's the hardest "sticking point" to how I can increase our Google rankings and thus business.

I am keeping our blog active, with scheduled 2 posts per week, and trying to add a 3rd whenever I can, plus I'm going to commission a bunch of infographics. The problem is some things are just more interesting than others, so how do you get the backlinks for more specific content?

For us, we offer a bunch of tips on video strategy, digital marketing, video production in general, and corporate / commercial video considerations for companies. That's not exactly the type of thing you're dying to read unless you're a marketing professional specifically in "we need a video" mode or "we're looking at what would go into making a video" mode. Whereas if I wrote a blog on, say, video gaming, I could probably get tons of people interested because there's a wider audience. Or maybe fitness.

I'm not really sure how -- besides just hoping for the best -- people are going to stumble upon the blogs and then be like, "Gee, this is a good blog entry, let me randomly link to it from my site." I keep thinking it would be better if we had some marketing company partners that don't do video work, but they do overall digital marketing work, SEO, Website development, etc. and then we had a partnership where we'd share guest blogs or links or things like that.
