I am trying to improve search engine rankings for one of my eCommerce websites but seem to have run into a brick wall.

The site ranks for many product keywords but they are all on google page 2+..

Domain facts:

1. Domain Authority of 20
2. Page Authority of 31
3. 4 Years Old
4. The Site is mobile friendly.
5. The site features 4000 products...

Would anyone be able to suggest a marketing plan which would help me increases the overall site performance in google?

Its true, but I need some kind of marketing plan in place to get my SEO moving in the right direction.

I can find alot of information on how to rank blog posts but seems much harder with product pages.

Therefore, it would be great to hear from experienced marketers on what would be the best approach to start getting steady number of visitors.

Other suggestions for your products I would definitely use rich snippets and schema for your products to leverage SEO.

Make sure you have submitted your sitemap in webmaster tools and bing tools.
Have you used AlexaRank is so what return did you get from the traffic?

    You can check out competition:

The domains and URLs - How many are exact match domains? Does every URL in the top 10 include the keyword?

The titles - How do the title tags incorporate the keyword?

The type of content that's ranking - Product pages? Blog posts? Videos?

The types of businesses that are ranking - Are they huge brands? Small businesses? News sites?

How authoritative those sites are - You can use a plugin like SEO for Firefox to check the age of the sites in the top 10, the size of their link profiles and so on.

This is probably the most helpful advice so far to get you started. But to elobate further, check out backlinko's e-commerce seo guide: E-commerce SEO: The Definitive Guide

However, a close second is the schema mark up for your products mentioned by @SimonBirch1973. Which you can learn more about here: https://developers.google.com/search...types/products.

In the long run though you will want to work on some link building. (Do your on-page SEO and schema first though, as suggested in the e-commerce seo guide mentioned above.)

If you think that's SEO you'll never rank a page.

Not sure where I said that was the SEO? If I thought that was the SEO then I would not be asking for support on this issue. I have just provided the points you quoted to help others know the basics of the site which are important factors for SEO.

        That doesn't even make sense.

You list gimmicks like DA, PA and site age in OP, now you say you know it's not SEO and in the same comment you say it's important factors for SEO.

Like I already said, it's not SEO.

Learn SEO or don't rank pages.

Many factors go into SEO and some of these factors. But them alone don't make the whole SEO package and I never said they did,

Correct me if I am wrong but you are trying to say Domain Authority, Page Authority and Domain age have no part to play in SEO?

No, they don't make up any of the SEO.

That's why you're not ranking pages, your list isn't any way shape or form SEO.

He didn't clear anything up for you. He just muddied the water and ran away like he always does. Moz rating MAY be an indicator of some good links or it may not be. It can be gamed and it can be fooled.

Now if those numbers indicate anything real they yes they may have something to do with SEO because links have something to do with SEO.

Why it was such a worthless road to take you down was because in this case even if the numbers are representative of a few decent good links the numbers are low anyway

johnben1444 gave you the most insightful answer. If you are stuck ranking for many of your product terms on page two then getting good links is what you need. It is terribly unlikely that your on page is very bad for all those terms just to the point of getting you to page two and stalling.

Link building with some quality links is your "magic" (but thats not really magic)

You simply now have to decide how you will get those links

Will you do outreach to webmasters?

                will you buy links?

will you rent links on a private blog network?

will you market content in the hope of getting links back?

                etc etc

Ignore the noise of people not being helpful but trying to act like a guru instead and focus on a plan of attack for link building.

I have looked into product sites in the past but they all seem to cost money and the reviews I have read don't look that good.

I have tried Google Products but the conversion rate is not profitable. All sellers drive the price down to be the lowest so it's hard to provide value to the customer in any other way. If you have any suggestions then let me know.

I am open to suggestions and I hope with a little help from you guys I might find a magical formula..

Google close the concept of page ranking. So you must give more focus on how to increase keyword ranking and traffic on your site.

A simple advice - try to make a linkbuilding for, for example, one of your website pages, and you'll see that it will be probably the best marketing plan for your website - to increase a link quantity and quality.

Compare sites on the first page of Google with yours.

Examine their backlink porfolio and compare them with yours,
you may come up with something that will help you improve your ranking.

Get links from where they get or duplicate their steps.

Ranking on the 2nd page of Google actually means your SEO is working.
The sites on the first page of Google is most likely stronger in terms of backlinks
than yours...It has never been the other way round.

    Thank you for your replies.

In the last 24 hours I have taken some of your comments on board and done the following:

    1. I have added schema markup to all product pages as well as blog posts.
    2. I have optimised 4 products for a single keyword
    3. I have started to track keywords

I would think the next step is to try and focus on building links via forums, blog comments and so on.

If you guys have any other suggestions which could help me on my way then please do let me know.
