Hi Guys,

As some of you may have seen, I have been trying to get my local carpet cleaning business to at least page 1 of google for some time now.

I am now within the top #18 for my main keyword woohoo, after being #150 for months.

I have done this by submitting about 70 citations/directories, and 80 backlinks, so all in all about 150 backlinks.

now i'm strugging to get any further, and run out of resources for decent backlinks. does anyone else know how I can get page 1.

my website is: Carpet Cleaning Manchester | Best Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners

I have not updated the website blog for a couple of weeks, someone sad if I had too many blog posts on a static local business website, it would water down my main keywords and make me rank lower.

any truth to this?

    No truth to that.

Look up Silo structure (internal linking with purpose).

Get more backlinks from pages that have backlinks.

  • I'll echo the no truth to that. In a sense I can see it if you have a really shitty internal link structure and you are not siloing your internal links but in 99% of all cases I'd call BS on this.

First off CONGRATS on getting to page 2.

While viewing your site I see you are not linking to your youtube channel correctly.

    You have
    https://www.youtube.com/UCFkRWuaDzQXvNBnnwcrv7QA

    Should be
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFk...QXvNBnnwcrv7QA

I'm jumping in late to your struggles so I might be giving repetitive advice to what you have already done.

    1. Do a back link analysis on competitors and come up with a back link strategy based on others who are ranking in the top 3 for your area around your top keywords.

    2. You already mentioned you are listed in local directories. I'd ensure you are in all the relevant ones for your area to include the map listings for Google/Bing. Sounds like you have already done this as well.

    3. I would develop my content strategy to include paid marketing of that content to get it out more to the public in your area. Don't underestimate the power of paying for facebook traffic to your content to drive leads, brand awareness, be seen as the authority in your industry.

I actually worked in the carpet cleaning industry and one of my first niche websites was in carpet cleaning.

Doing those how to get wax out of carpets, how to get blood out of carpets, how to get brown strains, how to treat high traffic areas, how to get gum out, how to remove blahh from carpets.

These things people will share and like as they are relevant tips for people. Just ensure you are targeting your service area.

    4. Combine the paid content strategy to work in paid search ads to drive leads

    5. Manipulate the Google map Listings with something like Crowdsearch. Be careful how you use the tool however and don't use it for your own website.

    6. Jam out some quick how to videos and silo them into a playlist in youtube.

    7. Network with other businesses for offline marketing and see about cross promotions that could be ran. Call up a auto car wash place and see about parking your truck out there to offer car detailing services and hand out your card as you make a few bucks. I did this and it bloody well works. Network, network, network. It's not all about online marketing.

I'd love to offer more insight. I don't want to step on toes in the forum but feel free to PM if anything I'm saying makes sense.

I'd suggest you mix up your backlink variety using private blog networks. It works for me flawlessly.
