I've read somewhere that wordPress is search engine optimised, but i think that is just strange, it would still need some manual SEO, right?

Yes, Wordpress websites require manual SEO.

This includes link building, keyword strategy, content strategy etc.
Google looks fondly at wordpress websites.

I recommend Yoast SEO which is a free plug in that will guide you in the right direction to fully optimise blog posts.

Of course you still need to do manual stuff, it's not Wordpress job to decide what keywords you need to rank for. But yeah, plugins will make your job easier.

One of the problems that WordPress has is Speed, which starts to go down and
down as you install more and more plugins.

Why? Because many of them load the libraries (JS scripts, CSS) that their
shortcodes (or general functions) will use, while WP initializes
(no matter if you're using the functions that the plugin provides on a
    specific page/post or not).

What is worse: lots of plugins load admin libraries (libraries that are
supposed to be used by the administrator of the website)...for every
    visitor.

The results are horrible and you have to do a good job with a caching
plugin to minimize some of their effects because if your sites are slow...
...their rank will go to hell.

Despite what the moronic herd of IM'ers will tell you, Wordpress is actually pretty lousy for SEO right out of the box.

Hello xixna, yes wordpress is SEO friendly, Google loves Wordpress and give websites with Wordpress a little advantage, but you must choose wise: Not all theme are the same, some are very slow other themes are lighting fast. There are lots of SEO Plugins out there, all have pro and contras. The most effective I have found WORDPRESS SEO by YOAST. But also there if you want get all out of this plugin need some manual changelings. When you use a theme I can provide its mobile friendly and out of the box lightning fast, you get a 96 at pingdom, right out the box, its extra build for that!! Ask me if you want get more info about.

Asking If Wordpress is SEO optimised is like asking If a Chevy is fast. Sure it's fast If it's a 2016 Corvette Z06 but it's slow as shit If it's a 1985 Chevy Cavalier.

Yes WordPress is SEO ready and SEO friendly. But that doesn’t mean that by choosing WordPress you will automatically rank for the terms you are going for in the search engines. You still need to work on how to get your website ranked in the major search engines to start driving organic traffic.

Wordpress is SEO friendly but you need to add your SEO plugin. Aside from that, you need to manually set your permalinks, title and description and some pages to make it optimized.

WordPress, straight out of the box, comes ready to embrace search engines. Its features and functions guide a search engine through the posts, pages, and categories to help the search engine crawl your site and gather the information it needs to include your site within its database.

WordPress comes with several built in search optimization tools, including the ability to use .htaccess to create apparently static URLs called permalinks, blogrolling, and pinging. There are also a number of third party plugins and hacks which can be used for search engine optimization (SEO).
