How do you build genuine backlinks to a new website?

Build back links from reputed & do follow links. Post contents in various blogs & guest posts will help you took up! But it's difficult to get backlinks soon. You have to work harder. Daily try to build 10 links at least 7 do follow & no follow

Reciprocal links are dangerous these days. If you build them Google will eventually find you out and flag you as spam.

You can easily build genuine backlinks with the help of off-page SEO techniques ie. blog commenting, forums participations, guest posting, Q/A sites participations, social media marketing etc. With the regular participations in off-page SEO techniques, you can build genuine backlinks for your new websites.

I agree with you that new websites are hard to get started, but, in my opinion, I think you should not start off with building back links. Instead, participate and be of best help on forums, and also do guest postings as well. In addition, be active and build a good reputation on social media, because this is one of the best arenas to get your new website good traffic.

I think backlink from relevant domain is one of the best ways to get higher ranking in search engine. But remember one thing whenever you will build a backlink try to get from a high DA website with a low spam score and it should be from your niche

I build reciprocal links all the time - particularly for local accommodation & attraction businesses.

I normally phone the businesses I see as good targets and ask them if they would be willing to swap links - explaining the benefits.

This type of link building works well in some industries and is common, others not so much.

Getting good quality backlink is tough in less time. After having tried for months to get Authority websites to accept our links, here are a few things I've found to work:

1. Write Quality, Unique and educational Content
2. Share your Infographics/Images/Whitepapers for free

one of the simplest ways of getting a new site good backlinks is to write or post good content that people actually want to share and link to.

Honestly, instead of spending a lot of time and money on building social properties, guest posting, spammy blog posts, and such, why not just write 5-10 good blog posts and ask an influencer what they think about them. You then actually have a portfolio of your work that you can offer as examples of what you can give to others if you then choose to do guest blogging.

You're building an asset, getting noticed and promoting your site all at the same time. Plus, you only have to manage one site rather than be concerned about other digital properties.

Forget about reciprocal linking. If your site is new, you can start with local business listing. Many good local business listing sites offer dofollow backlinks. After that you can go after another link building techniques like guest posting, classifieds, article promotions etc.

I just had a similar niche site give me reciprocal backlinks but he put them up and then took one down and hid one behind a banner at the bottom. I messaged him and told him I was taking his links down. I was really looking forward to getting these links because he had pretty good authority and backlinks. I guess I will just have to look somewhere else to find relevant high quality backlinks.
