Hello guys,

Does anyone know which adwords report you run to findout what time of the day your conversions are happening and at what percentage. I can see when my impressions are taking place but am struggling with finding that information. Thanks. I am looking to track conversion on a months worth of data to compare the effectiveness of marketing during different hours of the day.

Unfortunately, the hourly report does not let you select conversions. Google does not track that information down to the hour. With likely good reason too. People can buy at any time. Most will not buy the first time they land on your site. Plus, even if your target the US, there are three time zones (mainland). I'm not sure how relevant knowing the time of a conversion would be. Forget if you target many countries, that information is useless.

The conversion tracker by the way counts conversions for up to 30 days.

This would be incredibly useful. Although people can buy at anytime, different demographics are more likely to be searching at certain times. For a client with a limited budget selling professional dating services for example. I may find that lead generation is not perfectly correlated with the number clicks. If this is the case, and they are not getting 100% impression share due to low bids because of budget. I could make a more profitable campaign by turning off ads at certain time of the day and increasing the bids of those ads at the times of the day when people who convert to clients are searching. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Also, google does conversion tracking using cookies. I just need to know when the cookie was set. It does not matter when the person actually generates a conversion. I need to know the point of first interaction. I guess I could make 24 identical campaigns for my highest converting keywords and then set each one to only be on for 1 hour a day. that seems incredibly tedious

The intent is to optimize for click rate throughout the day which should help in achieving a high QS.

Say you discover that there is a higher conversion rate during a certain period of the day. However, this happens to be the middle of the night. There are few impressions and the click rate is low. It just happens that you got a couple of conversions in a handful of clicks which made the rate high.

Do you pause the campaign at other times of the day when the click rate is higher and more impressions but lower conversion? I wouldn't. I'd miss out on a lot more clicks and conversions.

If you get a high CTR, it means they were interested in your ad and therefore likely interested in your offer. So I'd work on getting as many targeted clicks as possible. If they don't click during a certain time for whatever reason, they are less likely to be buying. So I'd pause the campaign during the low-CTR periods. The benefit is larger than worrying about losing a small percentage of my overall clicks. But if you don't want to lose any potential sales, run your campaign 24/7.

The data also has to be statistically significant. A couple hundred of impressions is needed to make an informed decision about the click rate. A couple hundred of clicks for the conversion rate.
