Hi,
I have been hearing about reciprocal links for quite some time. I must admit that I have developed an interest in using them on my website. Although i would like to give it a try , I am worried of the impact it would cause on my website ratings. There is a mixed reaction over this and I am really confused . Should I consider using it or I forget about it.

Reciprocal links are good for getting traffic from extremely related websites that have viewers that need you products/services. They do absolutely nothing to help your website rank better.

It does no good for SEO because the "juice" you obtain when they link to you is sucked right back out when you link back to them.

Dave thats not the way link juice works

Anyway for many top sites reciprocal links are unavoidable. A university website is probably going to link to some local newspaper and a local news paper is going to link to the university.

BTW link exchanges are NOT bad. Reciprocal one to one exchanges are of limited value but you can do three way links and get great benefit

I never said that reciprocal links were bad at all. In fact, I said that they were good if you were doing it with a site that can send you traffic.

What I DID say was that they aren't something you should be actively pursuing for the purpose of SEO.

Reciprocal links are good if you choose a high PR website. But it can negatively impact the ranking of your website as it may increase OBL.

Reciprocal links are smart for obtaining traffic from extraordinarily connected websites that have viewers that require you products/services. they are doing fully nothing to assist your web site rank higher.

It's a natural thing to do: Friends, acquaintances, partners, everyone has the occasional link they'll exchange with a website. I personally use them on all my websites, linking to other websites in my niche either a little larger or a little smaller than me, and we both benefit from it.

Be careful though: Having more than a couple could hurt your rankings.

Exchanging links with other, related websites is a good practice. Try to get links where the competition is getting them, too. However, don't pursue an automated link program for reciprocal links. It's not highly valued, and if not done right.

Prior to penguin 2.0 update, reciprocal link building was a popular SEO strategy but now it has fallen as google has put this way of earning links as unethical practice.
