Hey people,

I'm new around here - just in the process of setting up another website focusing more on the SEO side of things which I have shamefully neglected on past websites.
I have done a bit of reading and understand the gist of quality SEO and ranking well in Google.

However, I have a few questions that I am sure you gents could help me with. I would really appreciate it.

Here are my questions:

1) I have chosen three keywords for my homepage, each very relevant and closely linked, two being longtail and one being a high volume short tail which low competition.
I am thinking about adding a blog to the website, and wanted to know if each blog post should feature it's own unique keyword (probably long tail) with hopes of ranking for lots of different long tail keywords through blog posts
OR should the articles be centred around the three main keywords from my homepage?

2) I will be including a affiliate program of sorts (essentially just referral links) to quite a few partners. I wanted to know how to go about making the most of them as ambassadors for my product, SEO wise. What I mean is - I will be requesting that they advertise their referral link through their social media (to an audience in excess of 1m) seems a good way of reaching large numbers. BUT I also thought about asking them to link to me through their websites (all high quality in related niche) however I am unsure about whether google will like me having multiple referral links pointing to my website.
I am not sure how I could circumvent that.

3) How would be best to get my ambassadors to advertise me? Should I ask them to include a link on their navigation which points towards a review of my product on their website, or an article? And how would be best for them to link to me? One contextual link in an article? Two? Should they use anchor text mirroring my homepage keywords? Should all my ambassadors all use the same anchor text? Or will Google deem that spammy? Essentially these people will be advertising my website/product, I want to know the best and most efficient way for them to do it from a SEO/Google perspective.

4) Bonus question - Does Google deem it spammy to add a link at the bottom of each article (using homepage keywords as anchor text) linking to an internal product page etc?

Few questions I know, some of them probably seem stupid to you guys, but I would really appreciate anyone making things more clear.

Thanks

    Welcome to the board!

    1) That's a good start. Your inner-content pages should be doing what you're talking about and target 2-3 long tail keyphrases. For example, if my website offered Web Hosting then I would have inner pages for terms like "Shared Web Hosting" "cPanel Web Hosting" "Blog Web Hosting"..etc. When it comes to the blog I personally prefer to make my articles a little more generic instead of targeting two or three specific keywords. Things like "Five Reasons You Need Web Hosting" or "How to pick the perfect web host" work great in blogs as they insight more comments and such..

    2) Technically it's against Google TOS to require anyone to link back to your website. You can always ask them to do it and provide them some simple linking HTML. But, technically you can't make them link back to you. On top of that, the link will probably only do allot of good if it's in the same niche. Doing something social media related is probably better here.

    3) If your incoming links are all coming from irrelevant websites it might hurt you, not help you. If you do get links coming back then be sure to alter your anchor text around. Don't use the same anchor text everytime. Also, a link from inside a unique article would probably be best.

    4) I don't believe Google will see it as being spam if it's at the bottom of the article. As long as the article is unique and the anchor text isn't the same everywhere. If you're linking to an inner-page then use the keyword(s) for that inner page as the anchor text, not your homepage anchor text unless you will be linking to the homepage.

    Hope this helps..
