I have a prospective customer who wants us to create blog and Facebook content for her, but not Twitter. I have read many times that Google wants companies to have a social media presence, especially Facebook and Twitter. How important do you think it is for overall SEO to have or not have Twitter posts?

Thank you!

Regards,
Beverly

The more relevant social media engagement you have, the better it will be for your blog, as the channels through which your engagement comes will be more. The main concern should to be relevant and focused engagement.

I would arrange a meeting or a phonecall with your client to tackle this specifically. Ask them why they would prefer not to have a Twitter presence and work from there.

There's plenty of reasons of why Twitter will help with social signals and possible traffic, but begin with your clients concerns first and foremost.

It may be an issue of budget, it may be lack of knowledge, find out the real reason so you may better service your client.

I will share one of my best experience about the twitter: I was able to connect with great influence on my niche. First, you have to start following them...

One you have started following them, now have to the post and appreciate the work they have done. Now it's time to follow their followers and they might follow back and that's how you can create the network on the twitter.

So, this was my one of the simple technique, that helps me to get a great amount of retweet, followers and traffic.

Just posting on twitter, no value whatsoever. Posting on twitter and engaging, networking with influencers and getting them to build links to you then do it. The only benefit just posting on twitter will do is that it may speed up how quick your post gets indexed.

When it comes to Twitter and SEO, they both are considered as different search terms. SEO is for search engine optimization where one optimize websites for search engines. You cannot directly seo based results from Twitter. You can optimize this social media channel(Twitter) to come up on search engines. That too only when it meets the guidelines of thousands of algorithms run by Google.
So I would recommend to not expect direct seo results from twitter but you can optimize it to come up for search results.

This is the most important, as the social signals are send strong implication to search engine crawlers to crawl the particular post or link when it receives likes, re-tweets, + etc, this pass a strong message that these are the things people likes or people wanted to see. And as many of search engine follows the approach to show the most popular, relevant information which people use to hear.
So these are going to being crawled again and again, so must say that yes these are the important.

SEO is "search engine optimization" NOT "traffic optimization". There is absolutely zero "SEO value" in setting up Twitter or any other social networks pages. Social networks can drive traffic but do nothing at all for SEO. The links are not followed by search engines so they cannot help a page rank better in organic search. Google also couldn't care less about "social signals." It is not part of their algorithm at all because it can be so easily gamed.

Does that mean they should not have a Twitter page? No. It's still another potential source of free traffic. And, there is an outside chance that somebody in the social network will have their own website and link to something you share, which WOULD help with SEO.

So much nonsense in this thread, but at least you got a good answer.

Beverly, this is the one you should listen to. Google could care less if a business has a social presence or not.

Whether or not your potential client should have one or not for prospecting, generating traffic, etc. is largely dependent on the type of business. For example, a dentist. What a waste of time. Nobody is going to Twitter to look for a dentist when they wake up with a toothache.

SEO-wise though, there is no direct benefit to having a Twitter account.

    Prospective customer?

    Good grief....another seo-wannabe-or-whatever-peddling garbage.

Google could give a rat's behind if you have a social presence.

Have no idea where you got that idea.

I pity the fools that part with good money for such crapola.

Will you people ever WAKE UP?

You people are obviously dreaming some seo-fantasy about social.

And taking "prospective customers" down a sewer hole.

    Hello there,

Just basing on the fact that Google has a high regard on companies that regularly update its presence on social media, then having a Twitter account is nothing but the best place to expose your business and its products/services.

I mean, Twitter is free. So why not make the best use out of it? You can use Twitter for marketing products/services, offering bonus or promos, and share testimonials of clients. Thus, I highly suggest you encourage your customer to have its presence on all social media sites, especially on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

    Best of luck!

Not looked at this forum for about a year (maybe longer) and it's interesting the same SEO BS is still posted as SEO facts. WoW!!!

None of the social media networks have any direct SEO value, Likes, Shares, Tweets etc... are all ignored by Google.

Their value is in driving direct traffic to a website, their indirect SEO value is when they visit your site can you persuade them to link to your website with a link that passes SEO benefit (not nofollow, not hidden somehow).

That's it, Google doesn't directly use Likes, Shares, Tweets as a ranking factor, but social media activity may have a correlation to Google rankings simply because a site that's doing well on social media networks will tend to generate backlinks.

The odds of anything indirect happening are slim to none via social for followed link building. Social traffic tends to stick to social platforms.

Watch friends or family and how they click links in social media, most times they bounce right back to social and keep on truckin to the next link/niche, repeat...

Very true, I wouldn't use social networks as an SEO tool in generating backlinks. Even when they do share a link, it's on social media which has no direct SEO value. You'd need soooo much traffic from them to help gain a small number of backlinks (ones that count), it's unrealistic.

I've also noticed as the social networks have grown, commenting on sites I own has all but died as well!

And just to rub salt into the wound, when a link is shared on Facebook I find any comments on the content are on Facebook, not the site.

Slimmer than that. I have several dozens of sites in a few niches. When I come across something cool, I don't link to it, instead, I think to myself: How can I create me one of them? Than create something like it and put THAT on my site.

Because that helps me and my visitors. Linking to someone else's site only helps my visitors and that someone else.

From my point of view Twitter does not plays vital role in getting boosted up but still gaining shares from all major social media channels is perfect.

Besides SEO twitter does plays a good role in connecting with likely minded people, I have done loads of link building over twitter DMs and have closed many deals via twitter.

I think Twitter is a good source to use if you are trying to increase online web presence. It doesn't help much with SEO because the links are nofollow. However, a company should have a Twitter profile if they are interested in building a brand online. Twitter is one of the best social media platforms to use for increasing online web presence.

Twitter is good for traffics, If you have good amount of followers and if they gets your posts and if you promote them in the right way...Then twitter can send you visits but...Never that affects on SEO in my opinion.
    Thanks.

I think Twitter is one of your brand portal beside Facebook. With Twitter, you can build your brand awareness and engagement with your audiences. Beside of that, you can drive traffic from Twitter to your website by posting many useful and viral content, it also helps in SEO with keywords in content you posted.

    Good luck to you,

I can't believe this thread is still up. It should have been done and done after someone asking about a "client" and this twitter BS.

Newsflash: Google does not just index tweets. Never did, never will.

The number of useful tweets is a small percentage. And what google indexes is an even smaller piece of that.

So if you are Joe Shmo with a twitter account, good luck with any getting indexed, let alone showing up.

Pure fantasy in real searches by real people.

Now if you are Kanye West, sure, your tweets might...MIGHT...get indexed.

You people accuse google of doing useless stuff,,,,then beg them to do even more?

    They aren't that stupid.

Logic looms when one must ask, "Why would you want a tweet showing up in the first place?"

If you are Taylor Swift...you might. Keeps the blogosphere up to date.

Nobody gives a rip that you tweet a new shower curtain review post url.

If you are working for tweets to show up, man, are you a lost cause before you begin.

Of course then we have the inane....I see lots of pages that make posts on who tweeted what.

You can gain a quick backlink by putting one to your website in your Twitter profile....simple, but often overlooked and people do view it.

I use social media more for the instant traffic and exposure. It does help build my brand/reputation, but I don't focus on it for the reason of backlinks alone. But in short, yes, it's important to the overall traffic and success of your website.

That's correct. Companies should have Social Media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram and Pinterest. Facebook is HIGHLY suggested these days rather than Twitter because you can create your ads and drive traffic using target audience and country. Twitter has built in features for SEO same as Facebook. Twitter posts are automatically added to Google search engines if you use HASH # sign.

I had a client who didn't want to have a Twitter or Facebook page but I insisted and created one and launch a campaign anyway.

Social media helps improve Personal Branding and Site Branding this means you are not dependent on Organic Traffics just to earn or get a conversion. Social media accounts is by far the most effective way to increase site and users trust which is a very important quality for a business online to achieve.

Twitter and other social networks do not help in seo but they are big platforms of online users who share their information there. These sites however help getting noticed your products or services by online users and attract them to visit your brand and avail its products or services too
