Organically we ranked on page 1 for years. I check our position each day as pathetic as that sounds. I've also got a SEO team who works for us monthly.

What happened today is I logged into my rank checker to check the position on all our words and found one of my major keywords fell 12 spots. The odd thing that I don't understand is that where it used to link directly to my main home page when you would search this keyword it is now linking into an inside page within my website.

I've read all kind of things online about why this would happen but it only relates to a ranking on all key words not one specific keyword and I'm only seeing this drop on one keyword. When you search the keyword our main website disappears completely from search engines and only one of our inner pages is showing which has gone from page 1 to page three overnight all of my other positioning for the rest of my keyword Remains the Same.

Give it a little rest don't go overboard since your rankings dropped. Just update the content and published date and see if that make any difference, Also check what sites are ranking on page 1 are they newly created niche sites or authority sites.

It could just be google dance to see which spot suits you or other sites well.

I'd wait and see where it is in a week or so. One day means nothing. For all you know, Google was running a test.

Did you happen to change the design of the website recently? If yes then it could be the reason behind the sudden drop in your rankings because personally I have experienced it to.It usually is a temporary thing so make sure your site is well optimized and follows the in's and out's of the 301 redirect plan. Also don't slow down your site's activity and update it regularly so that you remain on top of the game.

Fluctuation on keyword rankings is normal and the good thing is one of your major keywords was affected. There are some reasons like some of your competitors sites are outranking yours and sometime the slow implementation of updates in search engine algorithms.

You could wait for some time to settling up and keep writing the quality contents on your specific keyword and build the good authority backlinks that are relevant to your site niche.

As far as I know Google runs their update and that could be due to that.
Next, more likely that is temporary situation and you just need to be patient and wait a bit.

It is due to Bad content or copies paste of content from other resources avoid doing this otherwise your rank doesn't increase post quality and unique content related to your keyword
