Our site has been getting low conversions/signups so I'm digging into organic traffic. Above screenshot is from Google Webmasters Tools -> Search Analytics and comparing past 28 days vs. previous periods' queries, and sort by differences. Turns out, what used to be our top impression and best quality keywords from the previous period are dropping like crazy! 3 of them even dropped to 0 in the most recent period...

It doesn't make sense at all. We haven't changed anything any meta description of our main site, only added a couple of blogpost. It's as it our site's main pages disappeared over night

I've done some research but found nothing convincing so here I am.

Any insight is greatly appreciated!!!

    Hello friend,

The reason you are seeing this drop to traffic is because of the new penguin update. Though it is not officially declared by goolge. In this case you can do few thinks check your link profile and see the anchor text ratio and also see the number of Spamy links.

1 If you see that your anchor text ratio is too much in favor of your money keyword or towards one your keyword you need to change the ratio a bit. Spread the anchor text carefully

2 Delete PBN links if you have a small back link profile with higher number of Pbn links

    3 Check for spamy links

      Thank you for the response!

Approximately when did the penguin update come into effect? I wanted to see if that matches the drop in our organic traffic.

I see that our positions are coming back now, but actual signups (conversions) are still low. Not sure if that's going to slowly climb back up like the rankings. Any insights? Appreciate it!

Don't worry its just due to the latest update everyone is suffering these things right now. Many unwanted sites have taken on the 1st page when they will be removed you will see good increase in ranks and impressions.

Can you explain a bit into why the unwanted/less relevant sites were boosted? Were the rest of us simply penalized? I'm just really curious.

Penguin was designed to discount links that google considered spammy or manipulated, With every update and from now on going forward with little or no announcement of updates Google will change and tweak their system to discount links they don't want to count.

again details are slim but I think you should stop worrying about what happened and take action to correct the issue. That usually takes the form of getting more quality links (in other cases it can be a problem on the page but not sure if that's at play here).

This is usually down to bad links, check your link profile on a tool like majestic and see if it shows you many links on spammy sites.

"Short Tail Keywords" and "Long Tail Keywords" are optimized by Google every day. Also, every day best keywords take place of previous period best keywords. I suggest you use Keyword ranker tool to generate the new quality keywords and replace in <meta> tags. This should be done on the weekly basis.

Sorry but all the answers above are worthless.

You have not given enough information for anyone to know what is affecting your site or traffic

In addition to the latest google algorithm update, check to see if the keywords your targeting are maybe getting more competition from other websites?

Honestly it can be for any number of reasons, but it likely has to do with the recent google update, as many people have been complaining of dropping in their rankings since then.
