Best SEO for Country Specific Home Pages ??

May I have your opinions please?

I have built an eCommerce site marketed for Australian visitors at Certified Loose Diamonds Wholesale - Diamonds Of The Sun

but now I wish to build a specific home page for U.S. & worldwide visitors

Shall I setup a new page at http://diamondsofthesun.com.au/us OR somehow use the unused domain name; diamondsofthesun.com ?

Any advice appreciated.

    I believe you choose the best and google will accommodate whats available and pushes country specific users to that sub domain / domain or url.

    Important is local address and local language support in that subdomain / domain or URL.

    Make sure you are providing information that is suited for the targeted audience. Use of local language and time with local address will help you the most. You can make use of hreflang or language meta tag that indicate in which language your content is available.

    .US is not used very often by ecommerce sites in the US. They usually use .com (one of the reasons is because .US doesn't allow domain privacy - or didn't last time I checked). You can designate a site in google's own tools as to it s main location but I also like to host the site in the country I am most targeting

    Both thing help with geolocation rankings and faster speed is better for user experience.

    the .com domain you mentioned wold be fine
