Im doing an online copywriting course at the moment. It covers a comprehensive range of subjects related to copywriting and online marketing and is geared towards freelancers and people who want to get a handle on how to best market their own businesses online.

I have to say the course has been great, Its given me a great grounding in all they key areas and the confidence and knowledge to continue my learning.

There is just one this Im not sure about, the chapter on SEO seems quite outdated, it preaches the value of keyword stuffing, having a large quantity of backlinks, and it uses a antique-old windows explorer platform to demonstrate meta tagging and HTML principles.

Are these methods as outdated as I think they are? If so I think Ill be contacting the course directors and looking for some updated materials, its not a big job on their behalf to update the relevant materials, especially when students are paying good money to take the course.

Keyword stuffing is outdated! Sounds like SEO chapter is really outdated. We now look for quality of back links rather than quantity.

Hey Jipolis. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I really have to contact the course co-coordinators now and lodge a proper complaint. Its a bad enough situation where they are asking student to spend their time and money learning obsolete techniques, the end result being that me and many of my fellow students could end up seeking work as SEO experts with completely obsolete skills.

It's like if a mechanics course only taught their students to fix cars that were built in the 80's. Or an IT course that only taught students to fix windows 95 pc's.

Thanks for your comment and best of luck.

I remember a college professor telling the class that practically nothing they are teaching is being used in the real world; that textbooks cannot possibly catch up with the new innovations that are occurring. He said the main reason that businesses value a college degree is that it shows them a person has an ability to learn, set a long term goal and achieve it.

Keyword stuffing is just like in some forum sites in which redundant signature links are formed in target keyword phrase. Some are used within the content with more than four or greater than in which intends to manipulate the rankings.

Ah very good. So its a dirty low down slimy trick. I had a feeling during the course that it was a system that was too easy to manipulate, and it seems google and other search engines have becomes wise to such underhand tactics. It seems a bit mad that the course operators haven't really done much do freshen up the course and offer more relevant content. Thanks for your reply.

Keyword stuffing is a search engine optimization (SEO) technique, in which a web page is loaded with keywords in the meta tags or in content of a web page. Keyword stuffing may lead to a website being banned or penalized in search ranking on major search engines either temporarily or permanently.

WOW. I thought it might have been an outdated technique all right but I had no idea that using it might get me permanently penalized on search rankings. So thanks for alerting me to the seriousness of the situation. Its actually ridiculous that the course still advocates for and teaches such techniques.

The course itself is actually aimed at people who want to have careers in freelance copywriting. So the reality is that they are endorsing students to go out into the worldand offer their SEO services to playing clients with a set of redundant skills. This is not only disgraceful in the fact that students are being asked to spend their time and hard earned money to learn these irrelevant skills, but they are also being put into a position where they could go out into the world and put these skills to use with paying clients. Our reputations would be massively negatively affected from the get go. Just not good enough from the course and its content creators and coordinators. I think a serious letter of complaint is in order. Thanks for your help with this.

Check the copyright date of the book and then add two years to it to determine how old the information is (it takes at least that long to write and then get a book published). Keyword stuffing as an SEO method died in the early 2000's.

On a related note, "keyword density" is also a myth. Having your keyword phrase show up once along with other related phrases is far more effective than having your phrase appear multiple time on a page in order to achieve a mythical "keyword density". If it shows up more than once, fine, but those other instances do not help it rank any better.

Keyword stuffing died a long....long...long... time ago. Basically when the meta keyword tag became obsolete. I remember back in the day people would stuff thousands of keywords in the meta keyword tag! LOL!!!

The keyword stuffing is not working now. The keyword density should not over 3-5% in articles. Creating high quality content is good long term in SEO.

There are several methods of keyword stuffing. One way is to insert repeating keywords within the input type="hidden" field meta tag or the keyword tag so that the keywords are not seen by the user but are scanned by the search engine.
Another way is to make the text in the body of the Web page invisible text, or hidden text, by making the text the same shade as the page's background, rendering the text hidden to the user unless the user highlights the text. This method is called invisible keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing can also be referred to as keyword loading and spamdexing.

Outdated, and yet it's amazing how many new articles I have seen that people keep writing using these techniques. Focus on quality and uniqueness, stand out from the competition.

Keyword stuffing means to stuff keywords in the website or in the contents of the blogs which helps to rank a website in particular keywords. Nowadays, keywords shouldn't be stuffed excess above the level as it will show a negative impact on the ranking of it. Excess stuffing of keywords can penalize a website & can even ban a website because of violating the rules of Google.

Keyword stuffing is the worst mistake an SEO company can ever make when using keywords. This technique involves the excessive use of keywords in web page content. Keyword stuffing may result to a website being punished on search engines.

Prior there is a trend of building tens & thousands of backlinks without quality & the result seems to be very dangerous at the last. Now, the trend has been changed i& we focus on the quality of backlinks which is very important. We focus on the content quality & the Keywords which we are using for marketing. Long tail keywords which are location specific are useful to generate traffic. Excess stuffing of keywords will result in penalizing the website due to violation of the rules of Google. So, stay away from it.
