Sudden Backlink Indexing-- More than 80 per day but NOT my effort!

Last night, Yahoo! Site Explorer reported 59 inlinks.

Today, it shot up to 139 inlinks, no joke!

But here's the catch, all 80 inlinks were from ONE particular website I commented on before, and it is suddenly linking back to me in almost every page. The strange thing though is that I can't find the link anywhere on any page, except the one I commented on.

I checked my site on BackLinkWatch, and the massive amount of pages had no information at all, no outbound links, no tags (do/nofollow), no PR and the "links" had no anchor texts.

What is happening? I am worried of getting penalized by Google!

You cannot be penalized for this. If you could, competitors would use it against their rivals.

Don't forget too that Google rewards link diversity from a bunch of different sites and not hundreds from one site.

    It's still nice though, hey?

I just posted one comment on one of their articles (of course, with relevant and informational content) and the surge of inlinks suddenly flooded in today. No anchor texts, no nothing. There are at least 50 of them, from that domain.

I can't even find any links that is linking back to me.

As long as it boosts my rankings, it's good.

Yes, as long as it boosts your site just enjoy it! I don't think you need to get worried about it. Try to get quality links from different sites and one day surely you'll be rewarded by Google.

Yeap, had been consistently building 12 links per day on different websites.

So I think I hit the motherload with that page, it's main page with PR5 (i think) is linking back to me too.

So does this mean a website cannot be penalized for 'spam' links? because if this were true, competitors could harm you by spamming your website in link farm type sites. Correct me if i'm wrong..

I don't think you ever penalized for links those point your site bcoz Google is pretty smart and it knows you don't have control on links those point your site. But you get Google hammer if you do spamming on your site bcoz Google knows you have control on your site and you are doing it intentionally. So if your competitors are giving spamming links to your site then i must say you don't need to worry about it lot.

Yeah. And don't forget the important thing that, once 5 more people put up comments, yours will be bumped off and those backlinks will cease to be.

Another contributing factor to the GOOGLE DANCE.

Yes, it happens. Some blogs have the system that recent comments will be shown on all pages. So, same happened to you also. After a month or more you will not see these backlinks. They are just one time backlinks. About penalizing from Google, google will ignore and won't do anything because its similar as showing 1800 backlinks from forum signature links who has 1800 posts.

I've got one doing a similar thing to me. Only a dozen or so links from the site so far. It doesn't appear to have helped or hurt with Google.

Ya, I too have seen a lot of sites that have the recent activity boxes or recent comments, these can give a really nice temporary boost especially if they are slower.

Too bad they were not permanent
