Google adwords tool - WTF?!

Hey guys,

A question about the Google adwords tool.

I use the tool with the 'exact match'

I found a term with 30k monthly searches - done an ezinearticles which figures nowhere in the Google search and ezinearticles search because I have done no optimisation/ link building etc - however I still get a sale a week from it.

I found a term with 150k monthly searches - done an ezinearticles - sent 100 links to it and got 1st page - assumed I would be in for a lot of views etc and have got nowhere near the views of the first article.

My article writing skills are OK, and my resource box blends in very very nicely... On my articles I tend to have 25 CTR and my article titles and descriptions are very informative and spark the curious side of peoples brains.

Has anyone else ever found the Google adwords tool totally out even on 'exact match'????

I think I am going to start going for really commercial terms which I know will get an adequate amount of searches a month.

Any thoughts/comments etc welcomed.

Thanks,
Adam

First, the Google KW tool is not accurate for organic search results. So that answers part of your query.

Second, it is hard for me to provide much useful feedback on your articles because I don't drive visitors to content on other people's sites (like EZA), instead I prefer to drive them directly to my offers. Not sure if there's a discrepancy in how the views are recorded, but I prefer not to be at the mercy of another provider's site to get people to my offers.

      Hi Adam,

I didn't see where you have measured your separate traffic sources. Where is your traffic coming from? This data should be easily accessible from your server logs or other analytics software.

One of the benefits of using an article directory like Ezinearticles is that they are a popular source for syndicating articles. Your first article was likely syndicated to websites that have plenty of targeted traffic while you second article has yet to achieve the same level of syndication.

A review of your server log data should provide you some insight into exactly where your traffic comes from. If you are direct linking to affiliate offers from within your articles then this data may be a bit more elusive.

adam - adwords tool are mainly for ppc research - it should not be your primary basis when doing keyword research.

@bigcat - there are many tools available. just combine some free keyword tool, and if you have budget, some paid ones too, from there, you can determine a rough estimate on what to target
