What to put in an AMP-version of the page

We're considering making an AMP version of some of the most used landingpages of our ecommerce site.
Is there any guideline (or penalty for that matter) on whether the AMP version needs to have basically the same content (text, images) as the 'orginal' page that it canonnically associated with?
Or can the AMP version have a different body text and different images?
Are the AMP- and non-AMP indexed' independently or is only the nong-AMP page indexed?
