How heavy a weight do backlinks carry?

So, for the past 2 years I have been focused on content and genuinely not seen much movement on Google. The past months have had a switch to backlinks and I am already seeing progress.

How heavy a weight are backlinks? Are we talking 90% towards ranking well? I find it maddening that even really good sites with no links just simply cannot rank!

Thoughts?

high quality backlink in Google eyes is backlink from relevant site and backlink from high PA, DA and backlink from .edu, .gov site. Beside, the number of backlink to rank top at least 700 backlink

As per my experience, Its like 50% since if you have crappy content no backlink will be able to fix your ranking properly.

So with Good content and good quality backlinks you can acquire rankings easily.

Why would great sites with no links rank for anything that's got competition when the rule is: pages with backlinks rank above pages without backlinks?

The whole thing that got Bryn and Sergei to become billionaires is based on backlinks! Content quality is irrelevant to ranking!

Hi new member here but I have been doing this for a little bit.

I looked at your site in semrush and see 135 links so it would seem you could use some on first glance but as mentioned by someone above have you looked at the competition? I am seeing magicfreebiesuk.co.uk ranking highly for both "freebies" and "freebies uk." They have 11 links reported in semrush... as a side note they are https.

I noticed that freestufffinder was listed as a competitor and see they only have 60 links but their rankings for "free samples uk" and other sample and giveaway terms get them tons more traffic (according to semrush). They have 112k Facebook likes vs your 16K some would argue there is a halo effect from that on their authority.

Based on a brief review of your competitors and without knowing your true target terms I think you need to work on content marketing vs link building, at first blush. What are your kw target vs the current audience choice?

You won't rank for any half way competitive keyword without followed backlinks.

Any percentage posted here is irrelevant.

How heavy a weight do backlinks carry?

If they are ant backlinks, they carry up to 5,000 times their body weight.

    Ant backlinks are the best.

Get ants to link up,and you have a linking empire.

Every niche and phrase is completely different. There is no real answer to this question because of that. On the whole, though, they are probably a little more important than content but they are utterly worthless if you are linking to a page with near zero content.

Despite what some may think, we have sites with TONS of content that rank very well for competitive phrases that have ZERO backlinks. We have others that we have had to point a significant number of backlinks at in order to get them to rank even though the competition did not look that stiff.

Bottom line: Create good content AND get good backlinks. They are both important.

    Gary,

The best quality backlink is natural backlink from trust and high-quality site.
But quality content, quality content, quality content. Yes, quality content is best. First, put yourself on other people who you're targeting and provide most useful information.
Most people will say that you just create quality content, then backlinks will be born automatically.
My questions are When? How long will we get quality backlinks? and what happen if backlinks not appear?
Well, when you have quality content in your hand. Instead of waiting for someone share or link to you, why don't you find out them?
The question here is who they are. People want to share your content are people who are in your niche, they usually write content that related yours.
To find them, there are several ways to find them, but Google is the best way to do it. Searching for a keyword that related your niche and results are them. Visiting there website and contact with them and provide them your content.
They read your content, it's useful for them, they will easily link or share your content. That's all.
