Hey all,

As I'm typing this, I'm aware that it's incredibly nerdy, but I love writing meta descriptions. Solving the puzzle of fitting a keyword and convincing messaging into ~150 characters is the fun kind of challenge.

But I've also seen companies getting more and more creative with this underutilized space.

I would love to hear from you about some of the most creative meta descriptions you've seen!

Thanks

    Hey,

I read your thread, and I have shared a meta description which is most creative from my end.

"Add your URL to the Multimeta Directory site. Get the high quality backlinks and increase traffic for your website. Fast approval within 24 hours"

    Thanks

Creative as in following the standard and word count or the wording and who gets better conversion/visit/exposure??

Whichever way, SEO meta tags have a set rule and word count that fits the search engine. Having a longer tags may not appear in full length.

As for the title and description, the title is the key thing and what your visitors see first. The description should talk about the site and what you offer.

To know a title that will work best, run a classified ad campaign using different titles.

These seems to work well and let you know the title that does the most magic.

Now that you mention it, I quite like the challenge of meta descriptions too.

It is a little nerdy of course and I don't think anyone but the people on WF would even know what I am talking about but I love them and get a bit of a thrill when I nail them.

I'll have to get back to you on the most creative ones, I look forward to following this thread.

Naturally, people look at title tag first, then take a look at meta description quickly and make decision click or not.

So I think a good meta description doesn't need long. The point is how it attracts searchers.

Besides, Meta description should be combined with Title Tag to create a strong attraction.

The meta description is an HTML tag, which looks like this in the HTML:

    <meta name="description" content="A page's description,
    usually one or two sentences."/>
The function of a meta description for your page is simple: its main purpose is to get the visitor from Google to click your link. In other words, meta descriptions are there to generate clickthroughs from search engines.

Search engines say there is no direct ranking benefit from the meta description – they don’t use it in their ranking algorithm. There is an indirect benefit, though: Google uses click-through-rate (CTR) as a way of determining whether you’re a good result. If more people click your result then they’d expect based on your position, they move you up. This is why optimizing the meta description is so important, as is optimizing your titles.

Why not follow what the warrior forum does with meta description? Hint: They could care less. It ends up being a nonsensical, barely believable meta description.

They just do it to be doing it.

And I suppose that's why most people do it. Just because.

Over the years I have some up with many SEO-crapola.

We now have "just because" seo.

But to the wannabes, get a grip on reality. Your meta description can be any length you want.

Google can use it, or not.

Google can show however much of it they deem necessary. It varies.

They are not in a meta description box rule.

If you people did not know this, well, we know the rest of the story.

Judging by the BS in this thread, from top to bottom, here's a description idea.

    Make yours as follows:

"Click here for a million dollars free."

From my understanding many top search engines like Google and Bing, all do not use the META TAGS anymore except the Description Tag. They still allow them, however, they just do not take much stock in them as far as ranking your sites. The major search engines instead rank high quality unique content.

Older and unpopular Search Engines like Exactseek, HotBot, EntireWeb, SubmitExpress still utilize the Meta Tags Very much so.
