Google Shopping popularity search?

When you go to the Google Shopping page (www.google.com then click on "shopping") it will give you a short list of Stuff to Buy. On top of that list it says:

"A few of the items recently found with Google Product Search:"

Does anyone know if that list is just random or is it in an actual order of most search to least searched? I'm thinking Google Shopping would be a good tool to use to see what people are buying if that list had anyting to do with product popularity.

It is not the actual order of most searched to least searched - every time you refresh the page, the list changes to a completely new set of 25 items.

I'm not sure it is random either, it is probably just a running list of the most recent searches (which is why it is always changing).

It is useful for finding niches that you might not have thought of - and since the list is constantly changing, there is a good chance that you will see a niche that everyone else will miss.
