Need Help Ranking Local Businesses

I have fairly basic SEO skills but was talking to a few local businesses about how I am studying web development and they asked if I could help them rank higher in Google. Ive ranked a few sites before but got hit by Google changing its algorithm and was hoping to find someone who has more knowledge than me or has an existing PBN setup up.
