Interesting observation: Rankings Improved After Sending Paid Traffic

In the last month we've been sending a lot of traffic to our website from our paid campaigns, which mainly consisted of Facebook ads as well as advertisements on a range of job boards.

The links we acquired from that are all nofollow.

Two weeks since the campaign started our rankings for the site name, Passive Solutions, has started to improve. That after an idle period of 6-9 months being ranked at #9 we now all of a sudden rank at #2.

I don't think these links are responsible for that, what I suspect instead is that the paid campaigns resulted in a lot of brand searches, eg people googling our site name.

That should've significantly increased our click through rate on the first page of Google, and as such Google likely decided to move us near the top of the page.

It seems Google has improving user experience pretty well under control.

    I believe that for now Google does not consider if links are follow or nofollow.

      Good luck with that theory and page #87 of Google SERPs.

      Easy enough to prove, go build 100% nofollow links for a new domain/page. You won't rank a page for any keyword with SERP competition.

    Of course google considers dofollow links as trusted links and one of the most important ranking factor, this obviously might be due to increase in traffic to your website. You must have noticed your analytics as traffic increased.

    Since you said that the paid ads are done over Facebook and other job boards websites so it wont directly effect the CTR of the domain but yeah it would increase your brand awareness.

    I will also try this method and see what effects it does. Thanks for sharing it out.

    If facebook paid campaigns helped your site to get on #2 in google, then google adwords campaigns will surely put you on #1 position. But unfortunately, I have seen few sites running google campaigns for months but still they rank on 2nd-3rd page. So I dont think your fb campaign and ranking improvements are interconnected.
