Purchasing an SEO Package

I'm a writer and I'm planning to launch probably a blog in the next month or so. I have a niche picked out, an outline for content I want to create for it and some other information and research that I need in order to get started. This question is going to seem a little bit counter-intuitive given the fact that this is an internet marketing forum, but is it sensible to just outsource the SEO portion of the work and focus on content creation?

I have a web designer that I'm partnered with who is actually able to take care of designing and building the website and everything on that end and I'm actually able to figure out strategy and create content for the business. I think that working together we're going to be able to add a lot of value, but the one area I'm not that much of an expert in is SEO. I know that there are principles for on-page SEO that you can follow and honestly I've done the entire process in the past, but I just find it time-consuming and I feel like it could potentially be very valuable to outsource to a firm that only does SEO.

Isn't it also the case that SEO is quite labour intensive and you can pay someone a very cheap hourly rate to get it done for you so that you can focus your time on completing higher value tasks? If I can pay someone like $2 per hour to do SEO work for me, I can invest my own time in creating and designing the website and content in a way that adds the most value and generates the most revenue from the traffic that we're getting.

If I'm going to go this route, how much should I budget, who should I pay and what should my expectations be? I'm not that experienced with outsourcing and I don't know what specific types of service add the most value. All I really know is that I shouldn't hire someone who promises they can put us on the first page because that's impossible, but what level of results should I be expecting and is it worth it?

If you plan on paying someone $2/hour for SEO, you will definitely get what you pay for. Expect to pay AT LEAST ten times that for anyone who really knows what they are doing.

This is so backward it should hurt. I had a thread that addressed this general idea a few weeks back. You do realize you just claimed getting viewers for your site was a low "value task" ?

Thats like a fashion store owner concentrating on getting the right clothes and the right store setup and the right lighting and then paying $2 for what brings customers through the door.

You better put your mind in gear on the value of traffic because you very well may fail in everything you do with internet marketing if you don't.

I don't know who you have been listening to but thats just wrong. ANY good SEO SHOULD promise to put you onto the front page for something. its top three for a particular keyword that might be impossible but people have gone crazy with the can't guarantee anything in SEO. Its ridiculous.

You ought to be able to promise something given enough time. Last month we got a customer's site on the front page in three weeks. Wasn't the first time either.
