Am I Hurting my Blog By Using Video Instead of Text Re: SEO?

Hi Warriors!

I mentioned something to someone recently about how I'm in love with video blog entries - SO much easier than typing. But I worry that Googlebots might not see as much value in my videos that they would with textual content.

I'd like some insight into this. The person mentioned that Google does read my video content, but that sounds so - futuristic LOL.

I want to learn more.

    Hey Tiff,

I doubt Google reads your video content, but I may be wrong. You could test this by having a page with nothing but videos and then add Adsense. Are the Adsense ads on-topic? Of course Adsense partly bases its ads on your domain name, so this should also be considered.

The Adsense ads would also give you a good gauge as to what content Google sees on your page.

Also, Google states that you can view your site through a Lynx viewer as this will give a close approximation to how Google's spiders see your site. Here is a website that will allow you to do this:
    Yellowpipe - Lynx Viewer
Of course, the Lynx viewer will not see the content of your video.

I think Google sees value in sites with videos as this is popular right now and we know Google loves videos. But, I do think it will be hard for Google to know what your site is about without some complimentary text.

I hope what I said makes sense because I feel like I'm just rambling.

I would highly recommend that you take the time to include as much of a writeup as you can with your videos. Video Blogs can be great, but do the extra footwork so the search engines have something to chew on!

Google does not read video or anything similar.
People mistake youtube for SEO. Youtube has great
authority and will rank high. Add the fact that google
owns it. Google reads the title and description of the
video. People have very strange beliefs on google.

Your blog post title and intro paragraph will be what you
need to concentrate on. The video is not even an issue
as far as SEO goes. I would propose, however, that you
post it to youtube, then post the youtube video on your
blog. In other words, have a video blog collection on youtube,
then link to it from your blog, and visa versa. Many youtube
videos are found on sites other than youtube when doing
      searches.
