How many monthly searches should a keyword have to take into account for SEO? This is one of the most frequently asked questions that online store owners often have. The answer may vary but will never be entirely correct. Actually the error starts with the wrong question.

Once positioned in Google's top 10, more traffic should result in more sales. Here are some nuances that you have not taken into account.

More competition with greater volume
The higher the volume of monthly searches, the more competition you will find along the way. In some niches you would have to invest even years of effort without having any guarantee of success.

You will never take 100% of the visits
The fact that there are 10,000 searches a month in the best case only accounts for 35-40% of them as visits to the web. This is approximately the average that gets a web that is positioned in the first position in search engines.

Focus on commercial keywords
Not all keywords have the same conversion ratio. The word marketing may have a high volume of searches but has no commercial utility. Content Marketing is a bit better but still does not have much potential. Content marketing consultant on the other hand is the one that probably has less traffic than it has but the commercial one is the most attractive. Keywords that contain more than two terms usually show a higher conversion ratio overall.

Search seasonality
Depending on the tool you use for your analysis, you can only calculate the monthly average based on the annual total. Occasionally there may be a seasonality behind the term (eg skiing or Halloween). You need to identify those that more or less show an equitable distribution.

Ideally, focus on Quick Wins. It means identifying those words with commercial potential and a moderate level of competence. You can go faster when it comes to capturing relevant traffic for your store.

In this way we achieve more contact points in the top of Google increasing the chances of someone clicking on one of our results and consequently visits for our e-commerce.
