Hey guys, I have an SEO question about content and LSI. I read an article which was basically saying that long-tailed keywords do a great job of pushing articles and posts to the top of Google results - there's strong evidence that having a bunch of keywords populating a page is a good way to elevate rankings quickly. This technique is basically known as LSI or latent semantic indexing - you strategically incorporate other keywords and key phrases into the content and this helps Google know what the content itself is actually about, not just how it relates to a specific keyword.

This article got me thinking about ways to better implement LSI in my own work because it seems that if you can rank for multiple keywords, that might have a positive effect overall on how well your page does. Logically, it seems that having longer articles with more content is going to help you in this regard because you'll have more keywords and more long-tail phrases that your page can rank for, and you can more easily work these phrases into your material.

I also read a page that said that some of the most successful blog content online was in the 2000-2250 word range, and this makes a lot of sense in terms of this advice because we're seeing that longer articles do a better job of ranking in SERPs than shorter articles do, and as a result, the age of the 500 word blog article that hits the front page of Google is probably over.

What are you guys doing to improve page rankings on your blogs and websites? Do you think that LSI has a big impact for your website and how it ranks? To what extent are you using advice like this to create content for your projects right now?

There are both advocates and opponents of LSI. However, there is no question that Google attempts to move away from keywords and focus on topics.

A simple proof of that is to do a search for a keyword: many times, the keyword you are searching for doesn't even show up in the title of most of the top 10 results (and the explanation for that is not to be found in quantity and quality of links).

In other words, Google attempts to understand your search intent and match it with the best content.

Your best bet is to write the most detailed content you possibly can and spice it up with original graphics, images and other rich media content.
