Google's POSITION 0 - Featured Snippet

Just wondering if anyone here has had any good experience with getting a featured Snippet position 0 in Google.

From what I have read, you have to be on page one and then it sort of a crap shoot as to whether Google picks content to display there.

Anyone have success doing this and what steps did you take?

From what I've seen, you must answer a Google user's question in order to be selected for a Google snippet.

For instance, type "how do I trap a mouse?" into Google and you'll see a snippet from wikihow.com.

Yes, you need the page already ranked on page #1 of Google SERPs for your keyword.

The easiest way into the featured snippet is ordered list (<ol>), not unordered list (<ul>), there's a difference. Numerical order and well defined structure is what Google is looking for on a webpage.

There's also old school HTML Tables that can be used. Again, structure.

Bottom line it's pretty much all on-page optimization once the page is listed on the 1st page of the SERPs.

These things also depend on the context of the keyword, example, how to keywords usually show a snippet because the answer traffic is looking for is a step-by-step process (ordered list).

Everything Yukon stated is correct. We have had some success getting to "Position 0" and in every case, those pages are answering a question and have either lists or a table.

Another thing I would point out is that you should have more than 8 items in your list or table. Google lists the first eight things and if you have less than 9, people will see all they need to see and not need to click on your page link.

If you notice carefully featured snippets are appearing in SERPs when an user is searching something using "What is...?" or "How to...?" type of queries. A direct question will obviously ask for a direct answer. So the best match content which is offering a direct answer to that query will be positioned as featured snippet by Google. But the web page has to be SEO friendly first, to be considered by Google .

you need relevant content, position 0 changes most of the time between different sites to see if user interaction is better than the previous site

questions need to be answered with tables at least gets the attention of rankbrain

have good content that gets excellent user engagement and you have a chance to that 0 position in Google

I think a lot of times the featured snippet changes domains because Google algo finds a better page, whether that's better HTML markup or more relevant keywords.

I know a lot of times there's featured snippets for pages that clearly don't have the page optimized. Again, Google is basically only considering the top 10 ranked pages, so, If none of the top 10 pages are optimized Google throws the best page they can up there as a placeholder featured snippet, doesn't mean it's actually the best page because there could be a better optimized page from positions 11, 12, 13, etc... but they're not considered until they rank somewhere in the top 10 (page 1).

When I say best, I mean best optimized, not best content based on a persons opinion.

Look at the featured snippet for the keyword how to start a car, the content is horse shit.

      Step 1: Acquire Car

If you do not already have a car, you can find one at car a dealership and car dealerships exist pretty much all around the world.
They're obviously stuffing LSI keywords. Who goes to a car dealership to practice jump starting a car? Nobody.
