1000s backlinks overnight - is this toxic for SEO?

Hello all,

I started this diabetes-oriented website 2 months ago and started picking up some decent backlinks. However, I got more than 7000 backlinks from one site - diabetesdaily.com - literally overnight, and they are all pointing to 1 page on the diabetes website. I had done a guest post which was posted 3 days prior to this and I counted on getting 1 backlink.

I can't imagine Google finds 7000s links in such a short time 'natural'. Should I go ahead and disavow all of them?

I have all in all at most 400 backlinks from other sites, I'm attaching webmaster backlink data for the site.

    Yes and no

It depends largely on your site authority and domain age for example

CNN.com or mashable get 100's of links everyday to their site and because

they are high DA etc this is ok, however it will seems unnatural if a smaller site get this and

the problem is they are all coming from one page not good

Are you for real? Man you are just going to town on nonsense....

Google could care less about DA....so who cares?

Second, have you people never heard the term, "going viral"?

If you had 1,000 good backlinks overnight, the sky could be the limit.

You people have no idea how the internet, let along google, works.

Now most of these clowns go around posting sig links....which means they are getting as many links as posts they make. So, a chap with 1,000 posts with a sig...well, what are they saying about links?

Sure, the WF became nofollow. Which means they have 1,000's of SPAM links from the same site.....yet are warning people of doing such nonsense. Nofollow does not mean not seen.

You people cannot be living on on Planet Earth SEO.

    Hi:

That many backlinks on a website in that short of a time will be a red flag for google. If it were for a youtube channel then it would be ok since several youtube channels go viral quickly.

    Good luck.

This is going to be a red flag for Google and it will hurt you long term.

Ask them to remove your website. That's what I would do.

I think you are probably going to be in the clear. I mean are you even ranking for anything at this stage that is going to be penalised? All the links are coming from one site- Google will know it is because it has the internal linking structure. If it was 7000 backlinks all from different domains that would be a completely different story...

If all the links are coming from one website source relating to diabetes (with high page rank or authority) you might be okay. What's likely happening is they place your link somewhere that keeps reappearing everytime they make a new page or blog post ect.

I actually had the same problem, I used the disavow and my rankings took a noticeable hit. You can tell whether the linking website is spam or not just by doing a little research. If it's a legit site I'd leave it for now once you disavow you can't go back.

You should be looking to remove those backlinks. A sudden rush of links from one site, for a relatively new site raises some questions.

If it is reputable large site, why not? Unless you buy the backlinks and they are of terrible quality...

Its Depends on your website Authority if your website authority is low like low DA,PA, CF,tf, and your domain is also
new (eg 2,3 month old ) then its too bad for your website. Even 5 to 10 links are harmful.
but websites like mashable , huffigton post , get 100's of links everyday to their site and because
they are high DA, PA and old domain site so this is ok.

Likely, it is a link in a footer or sidebar, which is why it becomes a link on thousands of pages. It's really only one link and as long as it is not coming from a bad site or looks like a paid one, you should be fine. Unless you get a manual penalty, which you would see in Search Console, the worst that can happen algorithmically is the links are ignored.

When we talk about SEO, we generally talk about Google Search engine, unless we are optimizing our site in China Geo-location. Google has time-to-time cleared the fact that it likes natural backlinks, and penalizes the websites who are getting unnatural backlinks in unethical way. So, if you are getting lots of backlinks in a natural way, you are safe. Natural way means you are not buying traffic or not doing any kind of paid link building/link-exchange. The issue here is that you are getting lots of backlinks, and all from a single page. Well, you are at less risk, but Google runs on algorithms, and you should worry about it. I suggest that you should disavow around half of the backlinks immediately that are coming from the single site. We should always be at the safest side if possible.
