Adaptive Mobile Site - 'View Desktop Site' Link

We are in the middle of prepping for the mobile first index, and as such are ditching the mDOT in favor of a dynamic serving solution.
The question has been raised that it would be good to include a link in the footer that will open the desktop version of the site from the mobile one (and vice versa). Primarily this would be for the benefit of phablet users.
I haven't come across examples of adaptive sites that utilise this sort of cross linking however. I can't see it harming/impacting SEO in anyway, but I may be wrong.
What are your thoughts?
