Google Caffeine - what's changing?

I've just been checking my sites in the new Google caffeine and not a lot has changed in my main efforts. But I have started taking action following the various adsense methods people have been kind enough to share on this forum and I am a little worried about that as a business model.

Now I have just started and only have three up and running, all of them just about breaking the front page for the chosen keyword (and are slowly rising every day). But I look on the caffeine update and see that all three are then knocking around the 80 - 90 mark.

Now that is quite a change. Admitedly it could just be that they are a couple fo weeks old but why then would it change form normal Google to Google caffeine - unless either

a) something new is being taken into account
b) they are weighting more in favour of domain age etc

So I was wondering, what is changing with the Google caffeine update? What new things should we take into account when trying to rank for domains?

My guess would be, that caffeine is giving more weight to aged domains, as you have said.. but I'm not positive, but it would explain the difference.

I'd love to hear other's thoughts on this subject, and more about google caffeine.

    Hi,

Right now, I'm just playing with it over the last couple of days and the results seem so much better. However, it would be earlier to say anything.

I personally don't think that much is going to change..Perhaps a little more emphasis on content, but backlinks will still be important.

I have recently checked and found for ome of my keywords I have better ranking but some other keywords my ranking has lowered. So in my guess, it is not going to change much.

I get better results on a lot of my sites, seems better seo'd sites do better and it gets rid of some of the irrelevant results.

Some people are saying that on-page SEO is more important, with backlinks taking a slightly lesser role.

But it's quite impossible to know for sure, since Google are obviously quite secretive about this

For thsoe of you that want an easy side-by-side way to check your results before and after caffeine, use this site
Google / Google Caffeine Comparison by BlackDog.ie

As for my websites, they are only domain age 0 or 1, but it dosnt seems to be greatly affected by caffeine, in fact they move up fron no.4 to no.3 and no.6 to no.4. They are very niche specific sites though, hence my contribution would be that perhaps caffein is focussing more on the quality and relevance of information?

tbh that's what is confusing me. My few that are dropping are VERY specific niches and are providing some good quality info (probably too much as it took me far longer than the business model would like to research all my articles) - but all the front page are now people selling items to do with it now and not providing any real info.

But it could just be to do with age - I have read somewhere that caffeine is likely to give extra benefit to 'good neighbourhood' pages, pages on larger sites that are deemed useful, so I will give it some time before they decide whether my sites are useful or not.
