What is the future of Bing and other search engines?

Hey gang,

There is something that has been on mind a lot recently and I was curious what other warriors might have to say on the matter.

Google currently controls 79% of the US search market, up from 67% in the middle of 2014. Google's domination of the US search market has been increasing steadily for more than 10 years now. If past trends continue, then by the early 2020s Google will have close to 100% of all US searches and perhaps even total, 100% control. This is truly incredible to me.

I love Google as much as anyone else and I only use an alternative search engine maybe 25x times per year and that's usually by accident (I forget that I'm using Explorer and do a search in the url bar).

But while I thoroughly love Google, I'm not aware of any case in history where monopoly control of a product or service worked out to the benefit of the public (probably why there are laws against it in the US).

So here are some questions that are on my mind:

1. As Google edges closer to total domination of the US search market, will the government bring an anti-trust case against them? And if so, when?

2. What are some of the implications of having a single company control a service that around 75% of the population uses on a daily basis? I can think of quite a few

3. Is there any chance at this point that another search engine will be able to gain market share and genuinely compete with Google? At this point it doesn't look like anyone else even has a glimmer of hope of competing

Very curious to see what y'all think

It's really hard for me to believe that Bing will suddenly be able to compete effectively against Google. I think they would have to make major changes for this to happen.

Also, I've always found Google's customer service to excellent ;-)
