WP e-Commerce Plugin and All in One SEO Pack

Hello fellow Warriors

I have a dilemma. I've been designing sites for local businesses lately, a-la 'Offline Gold' by Michael Silvester with a few twists, one being a low monthly fee, if they do all the updating themselves.

A lot of businesses were asking for eCommerce, so I said no problemo. I'll chuck WP eCommerce in there, and make a tutorial video so they can add products whenever they like.

My problem is, I've now said no problemo to 3 businesses, only to find at the moment all products say Products Page | Name of My Blog. I am unable to find how to update the titles, descriptions and meta tags for the products. Posts at the WP e-Commerce forums have fallen on deaf ears as have those at the AIOSEO Pack forums.

Has anyone come across this with this plugin and found a fix?

The thing is, I preach SEO as gospel (with good reason), and it is imperative the sites are as search engine optimised as possible. I can't with good conscience install this plugin when there is no way the products will be found in a search the way it is.

If no-one has found a fix to this problem, is there a cart I can install for my ever increasingly impatient clients that is easy enough for them to update themselves?

Your help as always is much appreciated!

  • One more reason not to use Wordpress for a serious site.

Sorry. Can't help you with this one.

[Edit: I feel guilty for having been so terse.]

You might try this as a starting point:

I had read that, thanks anyway. I had hoped there was an easier way. I'd read the the AIOSEO Pack was now integrated with the plugin, but couldn't see how to add the meta info anywhere. I hoped a Warrior may know.

What CMS would you suggest instead that is free, has so many plugins, so much support, such a gentle learning curve etc etc as Wordpress? What have you got against it?

    Lesley,

You can change the titles of your page from the AioSEO settings page. The WP eCommerce plugin does allow one to add meta information on the product pages itself but it is not much help. However, your categories and pages can have titles of your choice from the settings page.

    Hope it helps..

I don't know if WP e-Commerce is any better than it was in the days when I tried it and found it lacking (I can't remember why, too long ago for my sieve-like brain, but it was riddled with holes then. WP e-Commerce, not my brain!) and I ended up using the eShop plugin instead. It offered less, but what it did, it did properly and met my needs at the time.

I couldn't remember what the eShop plugin was called when I was investigating similar solutions yesterday (Yup. Sieve ), but came across it in the following list...

It's possible there's something there that might be suitable for you.

    Hi Lesley

I used WP Ecommerce a bit but found it unreliable and not as versatile as I would like.

I changed over to a free cart that I use in my customers sites and some of my own with much better success and also does not interfere with my SEO stuff.

Here a couple sites you can see it use on while maximizing the Wordpress attributes.

Google the post 50 PLR Articles on Relationship and see it is number one over many others all due to wordpress.

Still building this one but you will get the idea

I run it on a few sites and don't have the title issue.

It doesn't add desc/keywords meta tags though but the title shows as

    Product Name | Site Name.

On the AIOSEO config page, every box is checked except "Use noindex for Tag Archives:"

Just got a answer for this, check it here:

    WP e-Commerce Search Engine Optimization

    Check last post:

1.Make sure you have downloaded latest WP ECommerce 3.7.4
2.Make sure you have the latest All in One SEO
3.Now log into wordpress deshboard and check this setting.
Products>settings>Presentation>Replace Page Title With Product/Category Name: yes
    4. Set custom permalinks to /%category%/%postname%/
    5. You will then have a Title Tag for wach product and google will love you
    It works

      Hello
      Any update on this?
I have seen solutions for customizing the title (see ex: in getshpped forums topic.php?id=3385 (sory this forum does not let me post a link) but not really for the fulll metas etc, that could be set up per page
For me, this (and the inability to easily change slugs) is a real problem with wp e-commerce.
Has anyone found a SEO plugion that integrates well?
      Thanks
      Agnes
