how many targeted keywords in an advert campaign?

I have created my landing page to capture emails and I have an offer for sign ups.

I am not looking at paid advertising (not google, bing or facebook). I just watched a video where the guy recommended adding 50k-100k keywords to target during the advert campaign.

Would you recommend having such a large list of targeted keywords? (since the main aim is to get as many people viewing the page)

Or would you recommend using 10s, 100s or a few 1000s?

WOW... stop watching those videos.. or re watch it, maybe they were actually saying something else?

Short and sweet. There is a difference between traffic from a flood gate, and traffic created to draw those that may be actually interested in what it is you have to offer. you can bring in 100 people and only 1% would be interested, or you can draw in 10 people and 80% are interested.. where is the money?

I thought that was far too many keywords to be targeting. Afterall, how are you supposed to know what keywords are effective if there are so many.

    The guy wasn't very good.

I will use some buying related keywords and narrow it down from there rather than using the guy from the video's "advice".
