What do you mean, when you say that the Alexa rank for your websited increased? Is the number bigger or smaller now? Because if your traffic increased, your Alexa rank should become smaller. For example, Google's Alexa rank is only 1 and Alexa rank of Youtube is 2.

"The algorithm according to which Alexa traffic ranking is calculated, is simple. It is based on the amount of traffic recorded from users that have the Alexa toolbar installed over a period of three months. This traffic is based on such parameters as reach and page views."

Alexa ranks measure gives ranks to the various website using alexa toolbar.
So data the alexa algorithm collects is only from the toolbar and that is all depended upon the toolbar enabled visitors, not on them without.
So, if the visitor has not enable the alexa toolbar and visits your website, the algorithm can not count that visit.
So it is not accurate and reliable rank to measure the traffic.
Focus on Google analytics visits and user flows to understand user behavior.

Alexa rank is determined by the web information company Alexa. While Google measures webpages, Alexa measures the rank of the websites (domain popularity). Alexa rank is calculated based on page views and number of average daily visitors (traffic) to that domain. Well, basically, Alexa is quite a relative value taking into account only data from users that have the Alexa toolbar installed. So if your Alexa rank increased by 10-15 points for example, but still traffic itself has increased, you don't need to worry that much.

Alexa ranking is something that you should not worry about. If you want just install alexa toolbar and keep opening your website 10 times a day and you will find that your alexa rank will drop down.

It's also a question of the quality of the traffic. For instance, if I recall correctly, I think one could just put their site in a traffic exchange to increase the ranking. Perhaps, that's what some of the posters meant by "not to worry too much about it"?

If you are looking for the algorithm then it could be too complicated but I guess you are not. The Alexa rank is usually measured based on the stats of users visiting your site and have the Alexa bar installed. If you have seen and increased in traffic and still an increase in Alexa number that means those users did not have Alexa bar installed.

Alexa ranking is some things that you just shouldn't worry regarding. If you would like simply install Alexa toolbar and keep gap your website ten times each day and can|you'll|you may} realize that your Alexa rank will sink.

Alexa uses nothing but a guessing game, gleaned from logic and probability.

Not necessarily any data that matters. They even tell you that.

The top websites are well known.....that's not a secret.

The lower you go, that is YOUR SITES,....there is no connection to alexa rank and reality. They tell you this up front.

You know why that alexa table top personal manager is named that? Because amazon owns alexa and alexa.

Both are for entertainment purposes only.

If amazon buys moz, then they will have a trifecta of meaningless crapola:
Alexa, PA,and DA.

Most are you fall into the category of a DA.
