Free SEO analysis tools

by 22 comments
I am researching my seo strategy and need some free tools to analyse competitors, create keywords etc.

semrush looks great but its $99 a month which is over my budget.

Can anyone recommend some good tools to get started with seo

I am particularly interested in any free tools to analyse my main competitor where there backinks are, keywords and what content they are generating to get traffic.

Also, can anyone comment on whether any other search engines might have less competition than Google.

Our free Search Engine Optimization report program is a powerful and simple method to assess your site’s conformity using the 78 rules that are the broadly-accepted onsite components of Google‘s algorithm to rank sites. This easy evaluation program creates a totally free search engine optimization report listing the on-page search engine marketing problems in your page. This Search Engine Optimization report is an excellent starting point to optimizing your site for better position, indexation and search engine crawling. You will not need to download any search engine optimization evaluation applications or register an account to have the Search Engine Optimization evaluation report of your site.

The report is divided into the following 8 sections:

#Marketing Checklist – These are the most important action items for your site.
#SEO – This section checks if the site is following various on-page and off-page SEO best practices (e.g., appropriate title and description, keyword consistency, backlink count, www/non-www canonicalization, XML Sitemap usage, etc.).
#Mobile – The mobile version of your site is displayed, and the site’s adherence to mobile optimization best practices is evaluated.
#Usability – This determines if your site is user-friendly by evaluating various usability best practices (e.g., the existence of a custom 404 page, above the fold content, structured markup, etc.).
#Technologies – This section investigates miscellaneous aspects of the site (e.g., W3C standards compliance, speed optimizations, etc.).
#Social – This quantifies your site’s popularity on social networks, and it reproduces various social data found elsewhere (e.g., profile information on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.).
#Local – This section presents your site’s listings in local directories (e.g., Yelp, Foursquare, etc.) as well as online reviews associated with those listings.
#Visitors – This measures the site’s popularity based on various traffic estimates.

Moz Local Listing Score, Keyword tool.Io, SERPs Rank Checker, Ahrefs, Google Webmaster Tools are the best SEO analysis tools. I always use those tools for analyzing my website details.

If you have no budget you can go for free tools like openlinkprofiler or ranksignals to analyze backlinks. I havent found any tool to analyze keywords so cant give any suggestion for that.

Also if the pricing is high you can opt for groupbuy they would be cheaper and can get your task done.

After Google shut down keyword planner for free users, I have been searching the web for alternative free SEO tools for keyword analysis but couldn't find any good ones so far, except the scams that are claiming to be free but are not like SEOBook and keyword.io, or the very limited free trials that are useless for good results.
Unfortunately I don't think there will be any free ones; looking at the high demands and the ridiculous prices charged by paid keyword research tools.

The free tools are not good like SEMrush. I would recommend you to use promo code of SEMrush that gives one month free trial. The pic is that to create a new semrush account with new card and cancel it just before 30 days are ending. '

I used this technique to use semrush for 2 month free.

    Hi @mknee,

Of course there are tons of free and paid tools for seo and keyword research in the market. Some of them are listed by warriors in this thread.

Most free tools have limited capability except for some really good ones.

One of the most important criteria is to analyze the top 10 results of the keyword your are targeting. These are the your competitors so to speak.

Two ways of analyzing them, by manual way and by paid tools.

Depending on your budget, buying a $99/month tool which you seldom use is not value for money.

Manual analysis is by far only qualitative and time consuming
Paid tool - as I said, you may have to fork some money. There is no free lunch.
