    Yes definitely, guest posting is helpful for any type of website. We actually do guest posting so that we get some referral link from other websites. That is the main motive behind guest posting. So, why not a news site. So, here your product is news and as we all know that news is a perishable product. You need to be really fast or innovative to get exposure for your news.
    It is really tough to post a news as guest posting as soon as it happens. Because guest posting needs time. You need to search for websites, pitch them and then get it published. So, what you can do is mold the news in the form of editorial or an analytical piece of work. This will be true for a longer period of time, websites will be eager to publish it and people will be interested to read it.
    It is difficult to suggest any website name as I have no clue what type of news you are dealing with. I hope will be get many if you sincerely search in Google or Bing.

    Firstly, yes guest posting can be great, if yo do it right, otherwise it can be just a waste of your precious time. So you need to be very focused on guest posting only to websites with the right audience. I believe it's better to focus on finding a great website and posting there on a regular basis. This is because you are not only looking to get random backlinks but you want their readers to start really knowing you. You are building trust you need to attract new readers. Also, you save immense time contacting new websites, which you can spend writing articles.
    I'll try to answer to this a bit more specifically to your case. As you have a news site, I think a great way would be to find a website where your topic could be a spin to what they write about.     Sure, quest posting can add a relative dofollow backlink to your backlink profile, can bring you some relative traffic and overal exposure. As it has been mentioned - there`s no universal advice on where you should post.

    I`d recommend you to use any tools helping to look for link-building opportunities, or to use the advanced searh opertators to find the qualitative websites in your niche and area which are relative to your website and are likely to accept guest posts. And then reach out.

    Guest posting, if done properly would not only bring you visitors but also push up your site's authority, provided:

    1. you post on sites which are trusted by Google or so called authority sites
    2. your content of guest posting is of high quality and original
    3. post on site of relevant niche

    A link back from these authority sites will be favored by Google.
