Wordpress - Adsense - Question

Fellow warriors,

Just a quick question I'm sure. I'm equally sure everyone has their own opinion on the matter also.

I have created a couple of websites now usiing wordpress and just wondering is it better to create lots of pages or lots of posts ?

Posts on the homescreen will make it longer if I do lots of posts but the adsense block is quite short so the side panels will be quite empty from about 1/3 of the way down.

Any advice as always is welcome

Best wishes

Pete

I use both. This site, for example uses both. There are about 1500 posts on it - if they were all pages, the menu bar would take up the whole site!

I use pages where I want content that everyone can see and read, and posts for the more bloggy, constantly changing or updating stuff.

Also remember that pages don't have an RSS feed - so if you want users to subscribe to the feed, or want to submit the feed to directories you will need at least some posts.

      Carol,

Thanks for the link and the explination, just for clarity if I may.

Lots of posts to show regular content and admin on the site. When you want to expand on a post and give more information you create a page ?

I will visit the link and check it out.

      Best wishes

Yes - that's a better way of saying it than I did - I think my explanation got a bit muddled in the typing!

I would focus mostly on posts if you want to pull in traffic from the search engines. You can optimize each one for a specific keyword you want to rank for.

One of the greatest advantages of using posts, over pages, is that you can create tags for posts. Do not underestimate the power of tags and their ability to gather traffic for you.

Also, if you do add pages to your sites, get the plugin that allows you to include your pages in the rss output of your site.

    1. The number of posts shown on your main/home page can - and should! - be defined in Settings > Reading subpanel.
    2. You may want to explore the use of:
    a) more button when writing posts (inserts automatically a "read more" link and you need to click on it to see the rest of the post)
    b) a plugin that does the above operation automatically
    c) using the_excerpt tag in your index template, instead of the_content
or a combination of the techniques above to achieve the look you want.

BTW, the more link button should NOT lead to a separate Page (as opposed to post) - where it takes you it is called "single post view" in WP lingo. The opposite is "multipost view" as on the index/home, monthly and category archives etc.
