It used to be said that if you hid you WHOIS information on your domain name, that it would hurt your rankings. The addresses should also match what's on your page. Does anyone know if this is still the case?

As others have said, that has NEVER been the case. The great thing about the internet is you can find the answers to questions you may have about practically anything. The bad part about the internet is that so many of those answers are wrong!

Smart people eventually figure out who the good sources are and who to never believe. Then, they do as Michael Koehler suggests and they stop relying on information from the bad sources.

Thanks for the background guys; I asked because it seemed like a real head-scratcher when I read it and that's why I asked the experts.

BTW, here's the article that I read that information from:

First of all, that article was written more than a decade ago. Secondly, if you read the article carefully, you will see that the author is questioning whether or not the advice given by Dave Davis on the Redfly Marketing Blog is legit.

That article was written nearly 10yrs from now and I think it's not up to date. However I see that the hidden Whois does not affect any in SEO as many big websites with top ranking having currently.

it is useful if you are using any first tier sites that point at a core site, not that anyone in here would every do such tricks.

If you dont want people emailing and ringing you, or your competitors to know who owns a site, then yes, it is still useful.

No way jose. All of my sites have privacy and I have top rankings across the board on many of these sites. Privacy is not a ranking metric, or a very small one.

Even if you hide information then many whois site it still does your domain registration information and it is only hidden when you register Whois Guard service
It certainly does not affect the ranking.
