Niche Sites - Saturated?

So, I got me a copy of Market Samurai and I have been trying all sorts of things to find a niche, but thus far to no avail. I'm sure I'm wrong on this, but is the niche site "market" completely saturated? If not, where are some good sources of inspiration?

Thanks!

I hope you didn't pay for it. Total waste of money.

The problem is not an over saturation of niche sites. The problem is that what the people behind MS teach as far as finding worthwhile keywords totally sucks. It is terrible advice.

Crap like the number of results in Google's search index for a given keyword (I think they call that SEOC) has absolutely nothing to do with how competitive the search results are. Nothing at all. In fact, it is not even an accurate number.

    Gary Illyes just recently tweeted

DYK the "number of results" you see in search results is really just an approximation that's less accurate the more potential results exist?
Almost all of the other factors they tell you to look at to find the gold nuggets are useless too.

I did buy it. So, if you were going to look for a niche using MS, what metrics would you focus on and why?

I would focus on getting a refund.

It does not matter what your keywords are, they all have 3 competitors. You need to be able to beat out the sites in the top 3. That's all you have to look at. #4 through 5 million don't matter at all if you cannot beat #3.

The most important factor is the quality and quantity of backlinks pointing to the ranking page, both externally and internally. MS does pretty much nothing to help you with that.

The rest of the crap... SEOC, domain age etc, is just white noise.

I don't even really put stock in keywords showing up in the title tag and heading tags because you can duplicate that on your own page anyhow.

Some good honest advice here. Thanks Mike

I would wholeheartedly agree that Market Samurai is petty worthless for the same reasons Mike stated. We set up more than 50 niche sites in the past 36 months and all of them are making money, so no, niche sites aren't close to dead.

To answer the question about how to find a niche, I answered that one about a week ago here on the forum - http://www.warriorforum.com/ecommerc...ing-niche.html
