How to get decent backlinks

I know a large part of getting ranked on google and other SE's is getting "good" backlinks.

What is the best way to do this for someone (like myself) who has not done it before. Is there a system to doing it or do you find sites that are similar to yours and ask for links. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Your going to get a lot of people telling you to use Angela and Paul's links .. they do work but if you are short of cash simply go to Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch and put in the url of your competition and there are your relevant backlinks ... now take action.

    Hi,

I guess the best way to get backlinks is to post it into Twitter and Facebook walls and comments.

On the more organic side, you can do a reciprocal link building excercise by Googling and emailing your industry compatriots or buy one way paid links.

    Hope that helps!

      !
I think the problem with that is that all of the comments on twitter will all be from the same domain, and all the comments from facebook will be from the same domain. This would be like having a blog and adding your blog to each and every page. Sure, you might have a lot of links, but it really isn't going to help you that much in the long run I think. You need a diversity of links.

I am a firm supporter of Angela's links, but note that the previous comment about spying on your opponents source of backlinks helps alot.

Okay, I'll be the one to say it, go to AngelasBacklinks and PaulsBacklinks and sign up for $5 and $8 for 80 high PR backlinks. The reason that's the expected answer is because they work.

Marhelper's link to backlinkwatcher.com is excellent, but be sure and do two searches, one for www.yourdomain.com and another for http:/ rdomain.com because you will get two completely different sets of data.

Really it is a simple concept, do not pay for the packets if you don't have the money that is the worst thing to do.

      1. You can always type in your keyword or niche + blogs or forums and sign up and make posts with your link in the signature. But don't just post b.s just read through and provide a quality reply or blog post.

      2. Write Articles submit them to article directories

      3. Social Bookmark your site or blog

      4. If you have a blog submit your RSS feeds to sites like feedage. goldenfeed and so many more. Or if you have a site with no rss you can go to Dapper or Feedyes and create a feed.

      5. You can look to other webmasters and see if they are willing to link to you and you do the same for them.

      6. You can type a site in your niche in backlinkwatch and see where they get links and do the same yourself.

That is just a few ways to get backlinks , not saying it is not work but any sucessful business takes some work at the begining to establish your business. And if you want to succeed in this business you have to treat it as a business , because that is what it is. Way to often I see people starting out in IM and thinking it is just something you can jump right into and become a success.
That is not the case in my opinion anyway. It takes work and you always have to be willing to adapt to changes because this business is always changing. You can always outsource work but usually I suggest people to try to learn the steps and work themselves so they know what is needed and what is quality work and so forth.

Anyway sorry to ramble on I hope this helps you out.

      And good luck to you.

I've been using Free Traffic System, an article based networking system that not only enables you to leverage individual articles by getting them posted to multiple blogs but also gets your backlink on your downlines' articles. So I get traffic AND backlinks!
It's a little time-consuming preparing the articles because of the 'spinning' required, but it's well worth the effort. You can purchase spinning software but quite honestly they produce gibberish...
If you go to my blog, you'll find a link under the category 'Traffic'

On Backlinkwatch you have to start with http:// they do not allow you to go with www.

      Am I misunderstanding you?

        A combination of

        - submitting articles to article directories (not just Ezinearticles and Goarticles - there are hundreds of good article directories),

        - creating Web 2.0 properties and putting content on it (there are hundreds of these websites, not just Squidoo and Hubpages),

        - submitting videos to video sharing websites,

        - social bookmarking,

        - submitting RSS feeds to RSS directories,

        - social networking

        - Angela and Paul's packets ,

        - writing press releases

        - (blog commenting and forum signatures)

A combination of everything above is the best strategy, there is no way around it. Google loves Web 2.0 websites and social networks right know (livejournal, vox, scribd, tumblr, facebook, twitter...), so take advantage of this.

If your site was Google, I think he was just saying that for a true indication of backlinks you need to search under both "http://www.google.com" and "http://google.com" (i.e., with and without the "www"). This is because sometimes the links show up under one but not the other.
