I wanted to change the page title for one of my pages but I have strong backlinks pointing to this page. If I change the title will it break the backlinks pointing to that page? I would just be changing the page title not the slug.

    No, backlinks will not break.

But if the page title become totally irrelevant to the pointing link then you might get in trouble.

  • No, it won't affect the backlinks. Backlinks break only when you change the url of the page.

Meta titles are not related to backlinks. If you change meta titles you will not lose backlinks.

    No, backlinks will not break.

If you change the meta, you should change the meta title is similar. You should not change the url because your site will be in trouble. And if you change the meta without changing the title would be affected less about ranking.

Meta titles are not used in 2017.

And what the frick would they have to do with backlinks?

I don't think any of you know that meta title has not been used since yahoo was king.

You people don't know the difference between a meta and a hole in the ground.

That's where your heads are at.

Please, keep using meta title! The internet is devoid of unneeded junk.

I thought the word "meta title" meant page title. I could be wrong though. But the reason I asked the question was because many years ago if I changed the title of a page it would also change the url, and subsequently, break the links.

But anyway, I change the title of the page and all is good. I guess wordpress works differently. But the page ranks a little better in search now :-)

The title tag is not a meta....meta title is old fashioned.

Changing the title NEVER changed your url. How on Earth would that even be possible?

If you used some who-knows-what program to do webpages, and it created another url at the same time, that would be inherent to THAT program....but then, that would be daft. So daft, it just would not be real.

Creating a webpage from some other thing that creates a url from the title you choose would be a different animal as well. Like the WF. It creates the thread using whatever the user posted as a title.

Where did you ever get that changing the title changes the url? The whole concept is just out there.

But then, maybe that's why you are asking about meta title....

WP has nothing to with changing urls if you change the title. If you create a NEW post, perhaps the url is CREATED from that.

It bears repeating. Nothing would ever be logical to change the url if one simply changed the title.

Put a new license plate on a yugo and hope it turns into a mercedes.

In WP yes, when you create a page/post, the title is what becomes the URL. going back to somewhere near the beginning of WP if you changed the title it WOULD create the corresponding URL basically leaving the original page/post out in lala land. Obviously that was corrected. BUT you can still find articles that discuss the flaw. - just saying
