Local SEO - Brick Mortar

I had a question on local SEO. I have a therapist practice and getting my ranking to where I need for my city that my office is in. I really want to get 2-3 surrounding cities and get on their list. I'm in a very low competition field and shouldn't be hard to get up there. I've read different strategies.

Do I set up separate landing pages for those cities? Do I just place those cities keywords on existing homepage?

    Single landing page is enough just add those other cities options in the existing landing page.

    Create landing pages for each City and optimize the home page for your main city.

    If you offer services in several cities - definitely go for separate landing pages optimized for each target location with individual address and phone specified (with specific lists of services for instance, and ideally with some localized content for each). If you just want wider visibility - go for using your city as the main business location but also optimize the existing page for just a wider target area (a region/province/state).

    Creating local landings for cities you are not really providing any services in - is not a good idea, as listings detected at false business address get de-ranked if detected by Google.

      Ok. Yes, it's for a business I have in one city and want to target clients in 3-4 cities close boy. Should I just try and fit the keywords of the other cities in the homepage and scattered through site? Not spammy though.

        Yep, in this case you can mention the other cities on your existing landing, but make sure there`s nothing spammy or obviously manipulative about it. Your contact details should still align perfectly with your actual physical location.
