I have a curious question about anchor text and keywords

Lets make an example. I have a webpage which is optimized for flying dog training.

And i do a backlink with an anchor text with Easy flying dog training.

does it helps in the ranking for "flying dog training"? and "dog training"? Or does it optimized for only 1 phrase which is easy flying dog training.

Pls advise

you have to focus for one primary keyword that is "flying dog training" and making "flying dog training" as the anchor text to get backlinks.
    cheers.

You need to determine which keyword is generating the type and volume of on the search engines now. If dog training is getting 1500 searches a month and flying dog training is getting 500, which keyword do you want to focus on?

Welcome back Spicoli, good to see you around.
I would only add that I would research the competition on those two keywords just a tad before deciding. And I would have a flying dog handy just in case.

some of these answers I see in this place are nuts! LOL
the answer to your question is: YES
if you get anchors for "quick easy flying dog training" then that helps you rank for "flying dog training" "dog training" "easy dog training" etc etc.
It is especially helpful if you have all of these combinations in your site content (on page SEO) as well.
The long tails are easier to rank for, but getting the longs helps you eventually get the shorts!

    hmm all with different answers..

allyn : i had the same thoughts as you, til recently, someone informed me that my shorter keywords will not be ranked. which is as what luckyjo said.

I been trying to rank for a 3 word keyword, but i have been using a 4 word keyword as the anchor text. been backlinking the past 2 weeks, but not much results...

Probably i wait for google to hook up those links before i panic again.. -D

just remember to vary your anchors amongst all the possible combinations of the keywords.

Good call Allyn. This way, you'll have broader, varying results towards keyword domination in your niche.

I agree with Allyn Hane . if you have long phrase keyword you will also rank for the smaller keywords which are in the long phrase.
