SEO question after 301 redirect

Basically google started to rank not correct pages instead of others.
Let me show you an example, the structure is:

http://domain.com/products/vendor_name
-- http://domain.com/product/vendor-name-product2

normally i see http://domain.com/products/vendor_name that ranks (and should rank) as it also includes keywords like product names in description.

Recently and after a 301 redirect to https, i have noticed that it started to rank differently for example now ranks (lower):

http://domain.com/product/vendor-name-product1 (wrong)
instead of
http://domain.com/products/vendor_name (correct)

I need your help to fix this and make the necessary changes in order to tell google to rank the exact main vendor page.

Or in other words: how can i tell google to rank the vendor page for such keywords and not the internal pages of products? Should i delete products pages (i don't care of deleting them) or should i make a redirect of those pages to the main vendor page?

Any help would appreciated
Thanks

You will need good backlinks for your site in order to make the change faster.

Submit your sitemap again in Google webmaster tool. Refresh your robots.txt file.
It will take some time to get things normal again. So I would suggest you to wait for some time.

A 301 redirect is utilized to ensure that web indexes and clients are sent to the right page. A 301 status code is utilized when any page has been forever moved to another area. Clients will now observe the new page as it has supplanted the old page. This will change the URL of the page when it appears in web search tool comes about.

    thanks for replies.
But what happens if the product page replaced the vendor page in the structure above?

    For example:
    http://domain.com/product/vendor_name-product1
replaced the right one like this:
    http://domain.com/products/vendor_name

how can i tell google that the last one is the right one? And not the product page?

Yes you can do this by shifting your url to that new url where you want. By reagain submitting sitemap of your product url. And It doesnot affect your ranking of your keywords with new google update of 3xxx Error.

First I`d recommend you to check if everything is in order after the switch to https (update and re-submit the sitemap, find and fix any absolute http links, etc). In case the rankings won`t normalize naturally in some time - you can try setting the vendor pages as canonical URLs for product pages (if you indeed don`t care for product pages), but you totally shouldn`t just delete the ranking pages in any case.

Hi Sclark, i will not remove those pages, maybe some product pages i am not interested, so it won't get confused
Can i use canonicals without restrictions or is there a limit?
I have read somewhere that you should not abuse.

In case the content on product and vendor pages is not similar at all, and you`ll point a lot of slightly relevant pages to one vendor page - this will surely look manipulative. In case there are just several pages you are not interested in ranking - you can set canonicals for them to indicate that you have a more relevant page for the query. I`d still recommend you to wait a bit to see if that`s a temporary issue due to Google dance.

Sometimes this happens indeed, but first be patient, and see if things will get back to normal naturally. If not - there`s a number of things to investigate when a wrong page of yours is ranking for a keyword (in case you believe you have a better fit). Here`s a good guide to detect the reason and possibly find a cure.
