So without knowing a thing about the website, the market being targeted, or even when the ranking drop happened (it could have been 3 months ago), it's a recent Google update that caused the problem? Brilliant.

the main factor for current G algo is bounce rate.
so make sure you have good content to hook you readers on your site as long as they can.

site like spammy keyword, spinned, and others low quality content will be dropped

That is ridiculous. Bounce rate is not a ranking factor, much less "the main factor".

Clicks + Low bounce rate + high ToS = Engagement.

Drive clicks through Social, get internal clicks through good content (which gives low BR & incr ToS).

This is why those clickbait sites that such as "You'll never guess what 'Celeb X' looks like now" show you page after page after page of other celebs before the one that you actually saw in the bait 'ad'.

To say BR is not a ranking factor is ludicrous - as if anyone here knows what they all are?!!

Note that @Mike also hasn't offered any advice, just wants to rubbish the other posts.

And for the record Mike, this page ranks #1 due to recency - Google is treating this site/page as a news page and one can clearly see the #2+ sites are much older 'news' stories.

First of all, I know why the thread is ranking. It was a smartass response to a stupid response. And I did provide a useful response above. I said that nobody has enough information from the OP to have any idea why the site dropped in ranking. We know nothing about it. The OP didn't even provide details of when the ranking drop happened. For all we know, he is talking about Penguin last year.

Second, to say that bounce rate is a ranking factor is what is ludicrous, and for 2 very important reasons.

Google has no idea what the bounce rate is on the majority of websites on the internet. Most websites are not using Google Analytics, so Google does not have access to the data.

Oh, and even when Google does have access to the data, they don't care. Here is one of my pages, not only ranking #1 for a keyword, but Google has also decided to reward it with a featured snippet at the top of the SERP.

All with a bounce rate of over 93%.

The second reason is that bounces are not always a bad thing, so why would Google punish a page for them?

Wikipedia probably has an awful bounce rate? Why? Because people find exactly what they were looking for and move on to something else. They don't click through pages and pages of Wikipedia.

If someone finds exactly what they were looking for on my site, or if I am a local business that they find and as soon as they pull up the first page they decide to pick up the phone and call me instead of browsing around on multiple pages, why should my site get dinged for that?

Not exactly what you`ve asked for, but perhaps this might help you to clarify the situation, and find the reason and the fix yourself - it`s just the coolest and comprehensible article about ranking drop, on how to investigate and deal with that. It`s kind of a question of current interest, but indeed, there are plenty of possible reasons (not neccessarily the recent update). Anyways, hope this can help you.
