My website has a DA of 1. Is it because it has been live for just 5 weeks?

DA has nothing to do with your site's rankings in the SERP's. Because its a third party metrics & Google and other search engines don't depend upon it.

Just focus on building good content and quality links. No matter what DA says you are going to be alright.

Genius. Add a link, drive traffic to the site (as people will click to check out the site), get people talking about it (as I'm doing) and watch the DA rise.

A very nice 'engagement' ruse - well done!

Only if it was that simple Dave. Sorry if it bothered you but I genuinely need help and it's not mandatory to click on the link I provided. The link has been put up just in case people need to use it in their SEO tools. If this was a ruse for backlinks I would have done a better job at sugar coating things.
      Nevertheless,
      Thank you.
I would still love it if you could help.

Get a trial account at seoprofiler (go for the 'smart' account trial). Add your site and the sites you consider to be competitors, and then analyse their backlinks.

Step 1, get the same backlinks if possible (usually blog comments). Don't worry about 'follow'/'nofollow' - a distribution of both types will show 'natural' link building. If you're using the SEOProfiler trial, start with links that have a high LIS (link influence score)

Step 2, get sharing your content on social media. Make sure your site has good internal linking and presents further reading options to your visitors. Engagement is indicated by clicks + low bounce rate + high time on site.

Step 3, Google Search Console is your new best friend. Go to the Search Analytics section and sort by 'Impressions' - you can see the search terms for which your site is currently being found ... try to capitalise on this.

Step 4, Pay Dave for further SEO advice

It is very simple by making backlinks. You must make backlinks for your website as much as you can. Google will check first your backlinks then give you rank. If you have enough backlinks then Google considers that more people are liking you site.
