Im not a fan of buying links for my regular site but I am considering putting up a second site and just using bought links for it..

I was talking to a firm a while back who assured me their PBN's were all good before telling me a few weeks back they were changing their strategy and hiking up the price to counter changes made by google. This confirms that the PBN's are probably not that brilliant in the long run.. but I know they are/can work now for many people so my question is for this 2nd site, should I buy normal links that you can get through 3rd parties whereby the DA for the site is quite reasonable i.e. 30+ and there is no obvious sign that they are selling links or shoujld I pursue the PBN route?

I know of at least 3 long time established marketers of good reputation that not only swear by their PBN's but also give courses on what constitutes a safe way to build a PRN. The information in each course is similar so I guess that when done right, no shortcuts, PBN's do work and over long periods too. Provided you don't leave dirty great electronic footprints all over the place that is. None of those 3 marketers entertain paid link building. It is, of course, curtains for you with Google if you get caught doing either. Personally, I would know where my self-built PBN would come from, I'd have no idea of the true pedigree of bought backlinks.

I don't think one companies experience with PBNs means that they are no longer working or a good long term strategy. Quite the contrary. They do still work (and likely will continue to still work for a very long time). But this is the important bit......they need to be done right.

The firm you mentioned, may have left a footprint which Google found and this is why their PBNs no longer work. PBN footprints are talked about on this forum, so I won't list the different types. Also, they may have used a PBN supplier who didn't build very good sites that looked like PBNs and they didn't pass a manual review.

Whether you choose paid links or PBNs is up to you. They can both work. But only use reputable services and do you due diligence on them before buying, is the best advice I can give.

Good luck with your second site!
