Blog commenting is basically useless for SEO. Sometimes it can send you some direct traffic if you manage to get a relevant comment placed on a high traffic blog. Apart from that it is pretty much useless.

  I can attests. I've hired pro commenters and when they do their job right, I not only get relevant traffic, but also great links.

If a blog owner permits it readers to add comments to posts, they are generally moderated before they are published. The benefit to you is that you may add a link to your site while doing so. This creates what is known as a backlink and these have an effect on your site ranking in Google etc.

It is better to respond, by making useful and helpful comments, to the contents of a post on a popular and authoritative blog, in a post that had direct contextual relevance to the content on your site. When you do this the power of the backlink is increased and improves your sites ranking further.

A more powerful strategy still is guest posting where an authoritative blog owner in your niche allows you to write an article to post on that blog. This way you can add a contextual link to your site at a very relevant point in the post. Google will value this link if the content is good and relevant and naturally flows to the content of the page linked to on your site.

These linking methods are part of what's called search engine optimization. SEO.

Responses that are copy paste - that are repeated from what someone else posted - that are pure nonsense.... and a dozen that are "me too" to get a sig viewed.

I've been out of SEO for a few years, busy with other stuff. And it blows my mind that people are still trying to rank their websites with blog comments - especially SPUN, spam comments!!

Yes, this forum is pretty much dead. Been away for a few years, there were always these weasely comments and threads, but the mods were always on top of it. I come back to this.

Did the new owners really think forums run themselves? I am pretty much done with WF - apart from maybe selling a WSO or two there is nothing to be seen here any more.
