SEO Setup for Home Page

by frank1985 7 replies
I'm in the middle of setting up Yoast on my website's home page. I have entered the main focus keyword, SEO title, meta description etc. However the 'Analysis' part of the plugin is asking for text on the main page.

I run a digital store and am reluctant to feature text on the main page, one reason being that it breaks up the design. Will my SEO be just as effective without the text (I will of course be using keyword related content on other pages), i.e. is it enough for google to just go by title and meta description?

Google will mainly use title and meta description but it is usually used for the titles and description within the search engine results. But having content within the page is great too, as search engines will use this too.

Also with the Yoast plugin, I get this a lot. The focus keyword is only used for an indication of what particular keyword your focusing on within any particular page. But it is a good indication.

A lot of the times I have coded the paragraphs within HTML, but because it's not written within the post section, the Yoast plugin shows all types of notices.

But keep in mind this plugin was ideally built for content-rich posts, such as blog posts and articles, which it works well for that, but pages with not much content on, which a lot of home pages are like this, it will show a lot of notices. So bottom line I wouldn't pay much attention to this.

Also, there are 2 different types of forms within Wordpress, pages, and posts. With pages, I'd focus more on the title and meta description and within posts, I'd focus on this as much as possible.

    I hope this has helped.

I think You need to mainly focus on the title, meta description, and keywords within your content.

Just ignore Yoast. Most of its recommendations are not that useful and not going to help you rank any better.

It sounds like you really are going to be trying to rank internal pages, not your home page as much. So you are fine.

Plus, one thing Yoast completely ignores and gets totally wrong is that you do not need text on a page to rank for something.

If you have added Meta Title & Description, H1 & H2 tags with ALT tags in your web page optimization than its good for better ranking in Search engines.
