Top 10 List for AdSense Newbies

Hello all....
There's obviously been a dramatic increase in interest regarding AdSense. As stated before in several threads, making money with AdSense does not require "hard" work. However, it is "alot" of work. There are also many stops along the way where a newbie can get detoured or lost altogether.
The purpose of this post is to provide anyone who is new to AdSense a few solid pointers that I follow when building my own AdSense sites.
In true Letterman style (although in no particular order)...
10. Backlinks!
I personally use a combination of bookmarking, linkwheels, and article marketing for every site that I build.
9. Use WordPress.
Google loves worpress because it's SEO'd very well out of the box & there are lots of others to improve the SEO even further.
8. Hosting.
Resist the temptation to start your AdSense empire on free blogging/hosting sites. Web hosting that suits your needs can be had easily for under $15 per month.
7. Keyword in Domain.
One of the more important SEO factors in my experience. Make sure the domain you register contains the exact keyword you are targeting.
6. Use a single ad block ABOVE THE FOLD.
I've used 336x228 in the past as well as 300x250.
5. Stay away from highly competitive high-paying keywords.
Stay away from keywords such as credit cards, loans, etc. Chances are slim that you'll ever rank for these types of keywords. I'd much rather rank for a keyword with a CPC of $.25 and get 30 clicks per day than trying to target a keyword with a $3 CPC and getting maybe one click per day if I'm lucky.
4. Forget the total number of competing websites.
It is irrelevant. You want to rank in the Top-10 so those 10 websites are your competition. Determine if the Top-10 sites are sites that you can outrank and go for it.
3. I'll say it again - the number of competing websites is irrelevant. Focus on the Top-10.
2. Buy a keyword research tool.
The free ones are nice but the time saved by using a paid tool is well worth it. Micro Niche Finder and Market Samurai are the two heavyweights.
And the #1 point I can make if you are a newbie to AdSense:
CHOOSE BUYING KEYWORDS - As pointed out in several threads in the past, people who are looking to buy something will be more likely to click on ads. This is common sense but is missed by people much of the time.
